I wish the game actually deserved it. Sadly, true innovation, like the nemesis system, doesn't get the recognition it deserves, while "collect 10 rams" does.

Yeah, Shadows of Mordor was a simple but fun game that I really enjoyed.

But that is how the industry works I guess. DA2 was well received by these so called "game critics" despite it's major problems and ME3 even received GOTY awards.

No idea how an action game with MMO mechanics could win an RPG of the year award anyway. Divinity: Original Sin deserves that award, because it is actually an RPG - and a damn good one too.

Are you saying DAI is not that much of an RPG? That's funny.

I believe this was solidly confirmed at E3.  ;)

Interviewer: So Dragon Age Inquisition, It's and RPG right?

Aaryn Flynn: Yes

To be fair, ME3 was my game of the year. I don't play shooters so the shooter mechanics weren't stale for me, I loved the writing and I'm used to not liking endings. ME3 was one of my top ten games of all time.

That sounds like my own experience, prior to the release of DA:I.  Perhaps it's because I didn't get into the series until May of this year, but it's now on my Top 10 list as well.   And I've been playing RPGs over almost 30 years.

I am rather surprised, but to each their own I guess.

I personally thought the game was very shallow unlike the predecessors. As a huge ME fan I was very disappointed. I might have forgiven that if it had an awesome ending though... The game felt very rushed from start to finish IMO.

Oh well. Hopefully ME4 turns out good.

I hated the ending and it was still the best game I played in 2012.

I bought into the hype of Divinity: Original Sin, though sadly I didn't like it.  I really tried to get into the story, NPCs, and characters in the world but I ended up skipping through the dialog.  People just have different tastes, I guess I just prefer BioWare/CD Projekt style for RPGs. *shrug*

Pretty much this.  I hated the ending (and various other aspects of the game), but I still thought that overall it was fantastic.

Now that I have finished DAI, it's interesting to contrast my impressions of it with all the others talking about everything! :D

Not an ME fan here.  I was under the impression the general consensus was that when you ignore the ending and galactic readiness, ME3 was the best of the series.  From what I hear, they nailed the gameplay and the story was good.

Too bad we can't hear any of it in the zones because your QA lacks basic QA skills.

Did you even read the linked blog post? :? "If you wandered into the Writer’s Pit while Inquisition was in full swing, you probably would’ve seen seven writers (and one editor) with headphones on, eyes fixed on monitors, typing furiously. Most of the writing happens when we can shut out the rest of the world and immerse ourselves fully in the story and characters. For many of us, this requires music. Often the music we listen to informs and even inspires what we write.

So, what was coming through those headphones when we wrote Dragon Age: Inquisition?"

I think you're referring to another one And we're only supposed to have brief music cues when out exploring not have it all the time.

Dragons are the apex predators of Thedas, after all. #DAI

Spoiler

Emerald Graves dragon was the toughest. It was my own fault really, I had a bit of a LEROY JENKINS attitude when I found her. Party in bad health, need to restock potions? LET'S DO THIS....It took me an hour to kill her by myself because my party decided to take a nap instead. I could have wiped, changed my party, and restocked my potions but I was so stubborn; I was going to kill that dragon. Set my archer on some rocks and annoyed her because she couldn't swipe at me with her claws.
