Heh, yeah, today is my first time back here since...release day? no, before that. The end of black out. The day reviews went live was the last time I was around, really. I'm trying to avoid spoilers like the plague!

Indeed, I already know I can't step into my "home" thread. (Solas thread) He's been the center of a lot of feelsuh and hubbub. I'm sure Solas thread is spoiler central! >.<

Sera thread's all sunshines, bunnies, and lack of spoilers.
And OTness, but who cares. We can jump back on topic whenever we feel like it.

Figured I'd do a backlog of some of David Gaider's tumblr posts, non-spoilery ones of course.
Dorian Pavus by sandara
This is rather lovely isn’t it? And fitting, considering Pavus translates to “peacock” (at least in Latin it does).
David Gaider on whether he has seen fan theories and thought they would have been a good alternative: http://dgaider.tumbl...ated-that-youve
"Not really. We have our own ideas regarding what the story is and where it should go, and seeing ones that are different don’t tend to inspire so much as make us shrug. That’s just not what DA is, to us.
Although I do recall one instance, shortly before the game came out…there was a thread on the BioWare forums where someone expressed a fear that we were going to use the explosion at the Temple of Sacred Ashes as some kind of “clearing house” where we would kill all characters that existed in a state of “might-be-dead-might-not” import flux…like the DAO Warden, Alistair, Anders, etc. etc.
I remember reading that and suddenly shouting to the rest of the team, “HOLY **** WHY DID WE NOT THINK OF THAT??” Alas, we were already too far down the rabbit hole to change direction.
That would be the only instance I can recall, though."
There was one where someone asked if he was finished writing Dorian before Tikaram started recording his lines: http://dgaider.tumbl...t-dorians-voice
"I believe Ramon Tikaram began recording when we were about halfway through recording the game. Most of Dorian’s personal stuff was completed, but there was still a lot of incidental lines to be written…and, as usual, once I got a feel for the VA’s take on the character, I went back and tweaked some of the dialogue. That’s not unusual — every VA will do certain types of lines better or worse, and their voice will be a little (or a lot) different from the voice you had in your head.
In this case, Ramon was pretty close. We initially had him using more of an East Indian accent, but in the end decided to let him go ahead and use his natural voice — it sounded good, and had a quality all of its own that lended to Dorian’s “otherness”, which I liked."
On Cassandra's (Disgusted noise): "Who’d have thunk that a bit of VO direction would become such a meme. :)"

Darn, many people have spotted Skyhold's invulnerability field then.
Must be elven.
Must be why Corypheus doesn't attack.
No need to include an attack on Skyhold in DLC.
I won't even need to change out of my pyjamas as I'm unkillable...

Whenever I do the Dragon Age Character sorter, I always end up with @BioMaryKirby characters pitted against each other and whine.

The awkward thing about doing the Dragon Age character sorter, though, is that I now voice a character up for consideration.

Has anyone checked out the Art of Dragon Age book yet? I went through chapter one a found it interesting that Blackwall seemingly started out as a Dwarf, and then evolved into a short human male. I think he's shorter than Solas, who is pretty tall for an elf.

Yeah he was a dwarf. Even Vivienne was so beautiful with hair. A shame she shaved it. But still magnificent hats.

Back in the gameinformer coverage from a year ago, I thought he did appear to have a dwarven build. Makes sense now.

Big thanks to @YahooGames for naming #DAI the Best Video Game of 2014! http://yhoo.it/1xGOyeJ
I've seen some people critique that it was bad design because they didn't know they could leave the Hinterlands and come back.
Is this as much an education problem in that we were looking on going against the grain for what is perhaps a common strategy in RPGs?
(That is, the strategy of "clear an area out entirely" which was certainly a common thing I did in RPGs in the past)
@PatrickWeekes Writerly type DAI question: does using blood as an enchanting component count as blood magic?
User Hm, that may be more of a @BioMaryKirby question. I'd say it technically is, but isn't considered such by the Chantry.
User @BioMaryKirby My semi-informed take is that "blood magic" implies a fresh sacrifice, unlike using stuff later for enchanting.
@PatrickWeekes User Blood magic uses something's life force as a substitute for lyrium. Alive, or just recently killed. Not old blood.
@BioMaryKirby User Yes, that, what she said!
I did gross out/amuse the writing pit with the tale of Why Patrick is Bleeding, though, so totally worth it.
