I think the original statement was that they were looking at Skyrim's exploration and sense of scale, "a more open world", not necessarily *the* open world as it works in that game.

In fact, Jonathan Perry has suggested that one level in DA3 is as big as all of DA2's levels. This certainly implies that Inquisition has discreet area levels and individual maps, there'd be no sense in distinguishing 'one level' otherwise.

That's hardly an accomplishment seeing as most of DA2's levels were the same.

I seriously think people ignore the diversity in maps in Dragon Age2. There are reapting dundeons yes, but all of Kirkwall, most of Sundermount and the deep roads are unique. All those levels together is genuinelly quite large, there are more unique levels than repeating.

That's true, also  there's the Wounded coast.

But this is still saying nothing.    In an average   60 hour AAA  RPG, all those maps together would represent a typical chapter 1   of a  three or four  chapter game world  (or approx.  1/4 of what there usually is), so yes, DA2 was still extremely lacking in the world space category.  And  our standards must be low indeed if we're satisfied with the maps themselves,  be it  their size, quality  or  quantity.

If Bioware pulls off what they say they're gonna  in that article, then it will be a huge selling point for the game.  A real one.  Something with substance that they can  proudly  demonstrate  before asking anyone to fork over their  $60.

True, butput every level in DA2 together, you still get a pretty big map.

Perhaps that's exactly their aim, yeah.

I mean, a possible response to (in my view, valid) criticism that DA2 lacked a sense of scale and diverse environments would be to go massively in the other direction and ensure that the sequel was absolutely dripping with huge, unique levels.

I'm expecting a much bigger, grander world in DA3 and looking forward to it. They aren't stupid--I doubt they could ignore the collective outcry about the environments in DA2. I remember the first time (I think) we ever heard about DA3 mentioned openly was a tweet about them hiring new level designers.

The tweet I was talking about is definitely gone. It was connected to DA specifically now there's only that one left:

Chris Pickford ‏@TheBoyChris 16h

Surpassed 1.2TB of raw E3 capture data. I'm pretty sure IT must be wondering what the hell is going on with their servers...

Not really. We go to the exact same areas of kirkwall, at least 16 times at a minimum. Not to mention the foundry twice, and the warehouse, how many times did we go to the same warehouse? Sundermount!?!!?!? The CAVE, that's all i'm going to say about that...

If they mean by bigger than all the maps combined that it is bigger than DA2+DLC combined... actually that would be quite huge...

I'm hoping for Sandal, he really is the only one I would miss if he wasn't included.

I'm so sad I'll be away until the 11th. :(

Hah. Just noticed that the hashtag #DA3 is being used for the Bioware game and the third season of an Australian children's TV show. Wonder if that's messing with anybody's social media metrics?

Do we take bets?
Because I'm pretty sure Morrigan will show up , and the marketing people will remind us that Bioware crafted DA: O.Public and critics Loved it ,big success in huge Letters , on Fire!

I just remember that I hate marketing , it makes me so cynical.
I feel like bit**ing about Twitter and facebook now ...

Anyway anything about DA 3 on the E3 preview today?

Interesting, though 'E3' may not necessarily be a reference to the convention (it could be an acronym for something else, for example). The devs occasionally do tweet technical jargon that we mere mortals can't process.

Though, seeing Mike's reply makes me think of things. E3-related things.

I may have posted this earlier, can't remember, it's from a few days ago:

This is much more definite :P

Demo, maybe? With... dragons.

Did he say capture footage or capture data? Not that it makes much difference, I guess, since I don't see why anyone would record 1TB of pre-recorded videos or trailers.

Is Dance Academy like Heartbreak High?
It was really sucessful in France when I was a teen.
In my mind, australians will always be as if actors from Point Break had an actual brain .
Like really hot surfers with an edge.
I'm sure it's not really like this ( well I hope so , because if this is the case I'm wasting my life right now...)

The narrative also mentions that DA3 is open world like Skyrim. No way to know how accurate that statement is until the devs say something about it.

Yeah, not too sure about how accurate that is. I vaguely remember they mentioned that they HOPED to use Skyrim for inspiration as far as open world goes, but I dunno. I'd be happy if they have individualized maps, to be honest. lol And, yes, have it on 360 would be nice. But now that I know there is a remake of the first Fable coming, I'll be ok if it doesn't. I don't see how they WOULDN'T bring it to current gen, with that large of an install base waiting, but I could be wrong. lol

EDIT: Maybe this can clear up the open world comments...

There's a remake of the first Fable?  I loved Fable when it first came out. (Could you post a link to that information? )

Yeah, Lionhead teased it at 3AM CST Monday night, then Microsoft announced it a few hours later. It was all over the gaming sites for a few hours Tuesday morning.
