Sure, in the same sense that everyone in bioware management was partially responsible.

So, Gaider, Laidlaw, and Darrah...and a few others?

Its not like it's such a tremendously large pool of people Gaider can claim to have no responsibility for the direction of the story and the romances that were included.

Wasn't going to weigh in on this (because I have no particular interest in a dwarf romance) but didn't David respond to a request for a dwarf romance by saying that he thought it was "squicky" that people would specifically want to romance a dwarf character? Even if we forget that they have something unique to offer as a culturally distinct race in the DA-verse, finding that body type attractive isn't something abnormal and to imply otherwise is a somewhat insulting to both real-life little people and very short/plump individuals who were not born with dwarfism. I can't give David a completely free pass on this one although I realise he may have chosen his words badly.

But note that he didn't say he had no responsibility, he said he wasn't the obstacle. He was obviously talking about people who believe that his departure means we can now have dwarf romances.

Yes, he did say that, which is what I was referencing with this:

Two points:
1). When asked about it, Gaider has not said, "Gee, we'd love to do a dwarf romance but right now, the technical/budget aspect makes it an impossibility." Instead, he went off on some weird rant about fetishists which he then walked back when people got upset.
.

I mean, I'd love a dwarf romance myself, but bottom line, Gaider doesn't like them, he's the head writer, he can do what he wants.

I'm just flabbergasted he's acting like he had absolutely nothing to do with it.

My impression has always been that he doesn't take the race of the LI too seriously in the first place. Back during the run-up to DA:O I remember him joking about how Bio female LIs up to that point had all been elves or half-elves, and that they were considering extending the streak. What I took away from the post is that it just worked out that way, and it didn't matter much whether they were elves or not.

He never stated he didn't like them. Back when DAO was in development, he saw a dwarf character in a sex scene that had pigtails and he was a bit weirded out because it made her look like a young girl. Fans heard that story and somehow got the idea that he "doesn't like dwarves." He has clarified this several times.

And that's enough derailing.

I gotta disagree, lynroy. We're discussing tweets, and DG tweeted about this, did he not? Though that's all I had to say about dwarf LIs in the first place. (Well, except that I ship one of my wardens and Sigrun... but enough of that.)

Agents, our mission was unsuccessful. Our enemies have united. Be prepared when entering the battlefield this week #DAIMP #DAITrialByFire

Agents, enemies of the Inquisition have heard of our failure and are joining forces to punish us, goodluck this week. #DAIMP #DAITrialbyFire

I'm not too surprised. I hope a new DLC is soon. Haven't we failed the last few challenges? DAMP is just not the same as ME3 MP

I think some of it might be because it's not as fast paced. Also, having to rely on teammates can be frustrating. In ME3 MP you could solo content. With that said, I wish there was a super supporty character - like, extremely good buffs, ice wall, and maybe introduce more AoE debuffs. I know the bard was a joke but...he sounds really fun to play.

I think we've gone beyond the tweet now. Is it really too much to ask that this be taken up in a new or existing thread? I mean, it's come up more than once in the past and is like beating a dead horse.

David Gaider ‏@davidgaider

It's hilarious how some folks are like "maybe now that Gaider's gone we'll get a dwarf romance in DA". Because clearly *I* was the obstacle.

He wasn't keen on the idea. His comments that the women look like children might have put others off as well.

Gaider joking aside,

I'm pretty sure they could make ones that look age appropriate, if ones at present are considered too youthful.

Fair enough if you were in on the actual  thread then I'll take your word for it I haven't got the  link that is just a picture somebody else has posted in a different thread.. I just didn't think he was keen on the idea which is his prerogative as a creative writer. I was not running him down just stating that he said Ewww.

People's definition of filler is funny, considering the context of the game they're describing.

What is that context that makes it good game design to have us collect dozens of bottles, shards, mosaic tiles, letters from dead people?

I don't recall this context being in DAO and DA2.

And I'm not even an outright hater of this content lol. I did it all and I'm in the Arbor Wilds and enjoying myself :).

And why are you saying 'people' when replaying to me?

The kind of good game design that encourages exploration of large zones while not punishing those who choose not to engage in such content.

Inquisition's issue is the lack of meaty story side quests, not the abundance of fetch quests, and since the two aren't interchangeable I think it's fair to separate the points.

I consider both points as valid issues. An open world does not need to be designed with this many collectables/fetch quests, regardless of whether its filled with meaty side quests.

I guess we just disagree.

EDIT: Astrariums were cool imo, and the CONCEPT of the shards is something intriguing to me. I don't think it should have had this design though. DAI feels like 'open world game 101', instead of the evolution that I'd have hoped it would have become by now. But then looking at what seems to be the earlier design of DAI, it makes sense. Damn you last gen! I'm still hopeful for future BW games in this respect.
