Dragon Age @dragonage

Congratulations to all the winners from the Great Thedas Landmark Search! Fantastic job, everyone. #TravelThedas

Seriously? *Sigh* I wish they'd stop leading people on. My girlfriend and I submitted ours way before they even said there were still "many prizes" left. I actually thought we might win something for once. Of course, it would be helpful if they told us what the landmarks actually are, so we can see if we were right, but I'm 99% sure we got 15/16, and fast. It also would have helped if their submission rules were less vague. Ugh, this is annoying.

In other news, who at Bioware should I tweet if I have a question about the next Mass Effect?

I didn't win anything either (but was late to the game...).

If you have a question about ME, I'd try Yanick Roy, Chris Wynn or maybe Michael Gamble...

Thanks, I think I'll try Gamble. Going to ask if they'll actually feature the female protagonist in promotional material properly... this time.

Edit: It's done. Kind of dreading the answer for some reason.

I get that they want Thedas to be the main "protagonist," but surly we can learn about Thedas through one protagonist. The relationships/story are everything to me in Dragon Age, but feels like we won't ever be able to really get close with the characters. I felt like my inquisitor couldn't get as close with Varric like Hawke did. He didn't feel like my friend in inquisition.

Sorry about that. I did feel my Inq got as close to Varric but in a different way. Started of a bit grumpy but in the end he cried against "my" chest while hugging, and that wasn't really only an awkward guyhug.

I don't think Varric is meant to be as close to you as he is Hawke. He's already got a bff. You're nice and all but you're no Hawke.

The context is different. Varric was Hawke's business partner and they maintained a close relationship for years. In DAI, Varric is just another member of the Inquisition, albeit a high-ranking one.

I like new protagonists too. It's cool to get to know the same characters on another skin, you can see different sides from the same person. And something I don't like in recurring protagonists is the level and abilities. You finish the game as a badass and then comes the next game, you're level 1 again, you don't have that abilities anymore, etc.

Another thing is: if you fought The Elder One on DAI and in the next game they make something smaller, that would be frustrating. I like Awakening, but after defeating an Archdemon, dealing with the Architect and the Mother wasn't that dangerous, you know? It's good it doesn't seem like the protagonist's story is over, because it's not. The point is that he/she will never do something so big again, so we will have to move to the next big story in Thedas. It's a huge world, the protagonist couldn't be the only one to achieve great things. I think that's important to build a consistent world.

It's also important for a standalone story to have a satisfying end that gives closure to the reader. We might have epilogue slides that kinda sorta tells us about things at the end of DAI, but the story itself doesn't feel like it ended with the Elder One and his one-way trip. It's all good if that will be addressed in a DLC that continues the Inquisitor's tale, but if we don't get it and get plopped into a new protagonist for the next game it's going to feel like a lot of stuff is missing between chapters.

One expects that the protagonist continues on with their life and adventures even after we've moved on to the new game, but while I can be content with how my Warden and Hawke saw their stories wrap up, I can't say the same yet for the Inquisitor. For now, we'll see what future DLC holds.

I mostly agree,

Spoiler
That's not exactly closure :P

Spoiler

I was referencing the end of DAO and DA2 with that. Had that been the last we saw or heard of them beyond referencing what they were up to, I would have been content to let them have their retirement. Not my fault if things went down as they did in DAI and now we're left wondering what's next. :P

Ah, I see. Well, I was content with my Warden's end in DA:O, although I wanted to play as them again. Hawke's felt a bit more like a cliffhanger, with them in hiding and all. And I'd like the DLC for Inquisition to allow me to develop my Inquisitor more, have a bit more backstory, and a good end for her (assuming new protagonist).

Liam @Liamous

Sometimes I remember that Solas is Ianto from Torchwood and all is right with the world. (Especially since Eve Myles was Merrill in DA2)

Cori Nicole May @genevrael

Neither of those things is a coincidence. I may or may not be a huge Ianto fan. HUGE.

Liam @Liamous

I AM 100% DOWN WITH THIS. ... So going with this trend DA4 will have some John Barrowman action going down? ;)

Liam @Liamous

Long story short? Torchwood is actually staffed by Elves.

Does that include DA:O/DA2? Because I don't think I was spoiling Inquisition.

Edit: The tweets on here by the devs actually spoil Inquisition quite heavily; maybe it should have been made in the spoiler section :P

I edited tags in, but people should really not come here if they don't want spoilers. Doesn't seem like many people do, anyway.
