Yeah it’s always struck me as odd as to why this thread is in the non-spoiler section when most people who view this thread or ask the dev’s questions are looking for spoilers...

It's also important for a standalone story to have a satisfying end that gives closure to the reader. We might have epilogue slides that kinda sorta tells us about things at the end of DAI, but the story itself doesn't feel like it ended with the Elder One and his one-way trip. It's all good if that will be addressed in a DLC that continues the Inquisitor's tale, but if we don't get it and get plopped into a new protagonist for the next game it's going to feel like a lot of stuff is missing between chapters.
 
One expects that the protagonist continues on with their life and adventures even after we've moved on to the new game, but while I can be content with how my Warden and Hawke saw their stories wrap up, I can't say the same yet for the Inquisitor. For now, we'll see what future DLC holds.

I sided with the templars in my main run and was quite content with my Hawke ruling Kirkwall. If Hawke had sent a letter or had Varric telling us that, nah, too many problems in Kirkwall to run off and do other things I'd have accepted that as good old fact and not questioned why I didn't see Hawke again. But I guess there was no option but to make them go on the run or Cassandra wouldn't have had an excuse to rough Varric up for the story.

From a moral standpoint, sure (although it's still kinda subjective). From a storytelling standpoint, it's still a definitive ending.

From a moral standpoint it was good, the bad part was " Hawke became Viscount, but he vaniahed", thats was not a definitive ending.
But the explanation in DA:I was horrible, they should let Hawke alone instead of using that lame, senseless ans full of plot hole excuse.

I liked the ending with Hawke ruling Kirkwall too, but hated Hawke vanishing, it was not a good wrap up (and it was made worse in DAI).
They should have done a better job with the history if they wanted to fit both endings.

Flemeth as people know it is gone, but is the entity gone? Eh, I have my doubts. And her last VO with Gaider might have been emotional simply because it was an emotional moment in the narrative (which, well, IT WAS), but not necessarily because Flemythal is definitely gone forever from Thedas. She survived many deaths after all ;P
