It is fair. Bioware made the game for those consoles, so all the extra content for that game should also be available for those consoles. If DAI was only for the PS4/XB1/PC from the beginning, that's fine. But having it for the PS3/360 then midway through the support cycle saying "You don't get stuff anymore. Buy the game again on a new console." is utterly unfair.

Except they’re most likely implementing content that simply will not work on old systems. Would you rather they support older systems despite the fact that by doing so it would be to the detriment of the quality of the content delivered?

Yes, I would rather them support older systems for the duration of DAI's support cycle since they sold the game on older consoles.

Having to buy a new copy of the game and a new console, a sum total of hundreds of dollars, just to get all the content for a game you already bought is throwing them under the bus. This save import is a band-aid on a dismembered limb.

It's still better than nothing. What's more - I bet they're doing that with full blessing of both Sony and Microsoft, who have been very determined to make people ditch old-gen systems and replace them with new ones.

Not really. They may as well not even bothered with how little this helps.

Oh wow, they have the blessing from companies who will get hundreds of dollars per person this affects. That's so nice of them.

Personally, I'm glad they won't be handicapped by the last gen consoles, as I think that seriously hamstringed DAI in development.

It sounds like DA support really is coming to a close. Mike and Mark are hinting about the plan for DA4, and now the writers are dispersing.

That's a shame. I'd hoped for more.

Do you mean 'DAI support'?

Yes, support for the current game.

We know about the final DLC, but I think most were hoping it wouldn't be the one coming out soon (I know I was).

Well, the writers are the first to finish so them dispersing doesn't say how many DLCs there are in the works.

It's possible that it's not the last DLC. Just because they have plans for '.... the future!' and yet another writer is working on 'secret IP' doesn't mean that they can't support DAI for a while yet. We'll have to wait and see though. At this point I simply focus on waiting for what they have for us in store 'soon ™'.

Like Daisy said the overall writing for the DLCs would be done already

Hiccups like this are why I play PC in the first place. If you meet the minimum system specs, you meet the minimum system specs and that's it. I don't think I've ever seen a developer switch console generations mid-game, though. This DLC should be very interesting.

And I know they don't give a number in that announcement, but I think this might also indicate there's more than 1 future DLC on the horizon. They wouldn't go through all this for just one piece right? Another MP DLC with destructible maps, I could see. Something awesome in the deep roads now. Heck, maybe a cutscene riding a griffon rendered in-game. lol (I assume an in-engine flying pov would have been a bit much for older gen to render.)

Also, if the possible survey spoilers are right

Spoiler

Well, if my anticipation wasn't intensifying before, it sure is now...

They would have left in two shifts: those who didn't want to wait around for post-release content (David) and those who chose to stick around but not for the next game (Mary).

They don't write so far in advance that they can just up and leave a long time before the project they're working on gets released (they're still responsible for their plots, even if they're the first things to get drafted).

David Gaider @davidgaider

It's great having @BioMaryKirby on the team again. Her advice on how I could screw with the heads of our fans is always golden.

- Mary's moving over to the new IP too...?

Patrick Weekes @PatrickWeekes

Wait hang on I have questions, which ones are the elves again?

Mary Kirby @BioMaryKirby

Oh, who can even tell? Just make the elves whatever

Patrick Weekes @PatrickWeekes

Aeth'rieth'rielethian: Star Elf (aquatic subtype): Friend of the duck people, on the run from unicorns.

Cori Nicole May @genevrael

Nobody likes you, Weekes.

Yeah, this likely means Mary isn't working on DA4. Either that or DA4 isn't in the production stage yet where her writing would be needed. It doesn't mean there's only one DLC for DAI coming, though. She could have finished writing w/e she had to write on 5 DLC before she moved, for all we know. The writers can get their stuff done months before the content is complete. And she didn't leave the company or anything (or even the building, AFAIK) so if they need her advice on her characters or need some last minute revisions, I am sure she can/will do so, regardless of current project. Same for Gaider.

I hear they're a lithe, pointy-eared people who excel at poverty?

Mary Kirby @BioMaryKirby

So... probably not the big things stomping around the Emerald Graves, then. Shoot, that was my best guess.

It's likely that all the DLC, not just the next one, are well into production. The writing is always the first thing done and it might just be that Mary's plots were some of the first ones finished.

Her leaving doesn't indicate much.

Umm no that’s not really how it works. Writing is one of the very first things that gets finished when developing a game/DLC so she could simply be finished with all of the content she had to write for the moment and they're placing her on the project where she's needed most. Dev’s will be moved around to where they are needed most and the new IP still sounds like it is in the world building/very very early dev stage, it’s the only project where new writers will be needed right now. She could be brought back on to the dragon age team later for DA4 since that probably won’t start being worked on properly for another year or two.

I doubt they'll die because their writer left, though I also doubt they'll be in DA4

Mary Kirby @BioMaryKirby

I... may have played 6 complete playthroughs of DAI since it shipped, trying to find all my content. Still haven't.

Patrick Weekes @PatrickWeekes

I only have one, but it was my completionist run. Don't know if I have another "Get all the Shards" in me.

Patrick Weekes @PatrickWeekes

Well okay, one completionist plus one "Speed-run to tame the dragon to get Platnium, damn it."

Mary Kirby @BioMaryKirby

I only did all the shards once: For my Nightmare playthrough, so I could have ALL the resistance bonuses.

As lead writer, Patrick would likely just take over writing those characters if they ever want them to return, but Mary Kirby is still in the same building if he wanted to seek her advice about them. I wouldn't worry too much.
