Doubt it was cancelled, it was most likely delayed. Microsoft may have published it early, though someone mentioned that they see it on Origin in their region so who knows.

I'm a Bioware apologist and fangirl, but they really need to fire their marketing team. Or EA does, whatever. Its terrible.

My workplace is kind of like that, really weird and secretive about stupid ****, like if someones fired they won't say anything or whatever, and next thing you know the replacements already been hired. I feel like marketing for the DLC had been like that.

Like, how hard would it be go to, "Yo, there's a holdup on the Spoils of Qunari dlc. It'll be next week hopefully."

It actually looks quite good but I'm not sure my Tal-Vashoth mage would be too thrilled about surrounding herself with reminders of the Qun and the thoughts of what they'd do to her if they got their hands on her. Then again, she'd like all the nekkid butts. It's a conundrum for her.

 

But qunari Inquisitor is a Vashot, not a Tal-Vashoth, isn't?

Many people's issue is; "Why now?"
 
Why not when the game was being held back, as they've said repeatedly. Why not when they realized they had to cut or scale down content? Why not prior to releasing Jaws or their item pack? Why 8 months into a game's life cycle and not a year prior to release?

We have to consider that it might just be purely financial. They wouldn't cut themselves off from the old-gen audience unless they had a pretty good reason. The player base on those consoles is surely much smaller than when the game released in November, and I expect that a significant amount of people have upgraded to the newer platforms.

The expected sales on PS3/X360 at this point might not have been worth the investment and work-hours to optimise future DLC for those platforms, and it hardly makes sense to spend the money if they weren't confident of making it back.

It does suck for people who are still on the older consoles, but unfortunately the industry is a business and not a charity. It would've been helpful if they'd made this clearer earlier on, or stuck to supporting older consoles the whole way through, but most publishers and development studios have been in an awkward place regarding the console transition and when it makes sense to move entirely on to the new ones.

Clearly, for Bioware that point is from now on.

Again though, they're clearly almost done with another DLC. This thread indicates they're showing it off very soon, which means it could be in the certification process at the moment, slated for release next week. Why make the announcement yesterday, and not during production?

 

This choice obviously wasn't made yesterday, for financial reasons, no one would complete a DLC for last-gen consoles and not release it given the choice, because even a paltry amount of money is better than none. So why not make the announcement as soon as they knew? The timing of this comes off just as poor to some people as the actual announcement does. Especially given the release of another item pack, meaning it's been known for at least as long as said item pack was being worked on, or when something was found to be incompatible.

 

This isn't information a company should sit on.

 

The anger of the fanbase will likely subside -- because let's face it, it always does -- it's still very fresh for a lot of people at the moment, and, contrary to how it's framed by some, it is a big deal to some people.

I understand the technical limitations, but they should really have been upfront about being unable to support the last gen consoles throughout the whole dlc cycle, not announce it half way through. The player should not have to guess that they'd have to upgrade eventually to play all the DLC if the base game was on the console they got it on.

I started off on the PS3 went onto the PS4 eventually, and would have done so anyways no matter what my circumstances.  DA I makes the second game I have purchased for more then one platform.

Oh please, anyone who's serious about gaming and visuals is going to be playing on a pc. The only people who use consoles exclusively are casuals. Pc gaming is and always will be the future, due to its dynamic nature and ability to adapt on the fly. Consoles always bring about a period of development plateau due to the fact that you are confined to the same hardware for such a long period of time.


We need to get back in topic though, I think this thread has strayed far enough.

LOL Yeah. Same here. And truth be told, I know a heap of people who have switched from console gaming to PC gaming, particularly as they've gotten older. They had the consoles when they were in high school and university and during their early low paying jobs but once they got a decent paying job, they bought a PC and never really looked back.
