Watching @davidgaider (and @genevrael) bring Dorian's character to life in words was an amazing experience.

But mostly @davidgaider. Dorian was practically perfect in every way. As is thematically appropriate.
Note to Tumblr: I did not write the IGN article, nor decide to have it focus on Dorian or to call him a "breakout character".
It's from the perspective of a gaming journalist who found Dorian refreshing, and I think he explains why rather well.
I keep thinking about doing an art off between me and @MattRhodesArt. The catch I pick the medium for Matt. Like macaroni vs Photoshop.
I bet @MattRhodesArt still wins
Whether an item is great for use or not depends on the player and doesn't really matter to the fact that Bioware has sold item packs in the past
I think past packs have won in both quality and quantity though.
I regard the packs from DA2 as well worth the money. They had a ton of weapons and armor in each, many of which scaled, and which were also new and (in my opinion, attractive) designs. Plus very useful scaling accessories for each companion.
Avvar has two armor schematics that were shamelessly cut from the DLC (seriously, every other NPC and their mother is running around in them). Ignoring the mounts and chair - they are what they are (I certainly couldn't care less for the mounts), I really don't think the $5 dollars is justifiable compared with older releases.

Tomorrow I'm going to be talking about art and video games in room 7AB at 4PM with @DarkHorseComics friends.

Re: the DA fan meetup here at SDCC, I am hearing we will have a location locked down in the next day or so. Seem to be lots interested.

.@bengelinas and I just got kinda chewed out by a three-time Hugo award winning author, and I don't know how to feel about it.

I checked the list of Hugo award winners, and it's either the reanimated corpse of Robert Heinlein or, if retroactive Hugo Awards count, the very-much-living Orson Scott Card.

I like how Tallis is quietly "looking-not looking" while Sandal is all "noooope".

Dog, however, looks ready to take Wolverine down if it starts getting too crazy.
And I rarely used any of the items in DA2 DLC packs with the exception of things for Companions. The point is that the POV of one Player should not remove the options of another. What one considers useful and viable does not equate to all others, even if it is proven to be a majority. My DAO builds were not popular on the boards at that time, but they were quite viable, and enjoyable for my game.
If someone does not want them; skip 'em, but do not demand that they should be made free.
It's baffling how you're able to spin this into the preferences of one player (me) removing options of another. That's insane. Nobody would lose out if they decided all of a sudden not to gouge their players.
And I'm just talking about numbers. The two all class packs cost $10 and had 40 items each. All of which were new additions to the game. The avvar pack is $5 and has two pieces of armor in it, both of which were already present in in Jaws of Hakkon. Maybe the chair and the mounts make up the rest of that value for others. I can't speak for them, suffice to say that considering the reception, it's not a widely held position. Either way, all of them would have been appropriate additions to JoH proper.
I just think they should be priced appropriately. Given how slim the pickings were in the pack and the precedent of previous offerings by Bioware (let alone the approach certain other developers who shall remain nameless are taking), it would have been a nice - not to mention smart - gesture to release it for free. Releasing it as they did, for the price that they're asking, is cynical and predatory.
Again - $10 for 40 items versus $5 for two.
I really don't know what else to say.

The comparisons of what are considered effective item DLC suggests what quality should be made available for a fee. Whether free or not, the final choice should be that of the Player. If one does not like it; pass on it.
Personally, I do not desire the items; neither seems fitting for any of my current Inquisitions. But I decline to demand which products are free or not, as any of this content required zots, and the company has every right to recover expenses; even make a profit.
You can pass on the free content too. You didn't have to download the Black Emporium, or either of the MP packs. Your liberty is intact.
You're very deliberately ignoring the substance of the point I'm trying to make.

I actually included that point in the second sentence, "Whether free or not....". But since it is mentioned, some games have auto-updates; content placed via patches and the like, and such DLC is harder to control.
No need to demand free content.
And once again, "demanding free content" is a mischaracterization of my criticism, but you appear to be rewording my posts in your head and responding to that reinterpretation of whatever it is I'm saying.
Sometimes, Bioware and EA do really dumb things. They've done a whole bunch of dumb things the last few days.

Disagree; if one wants the items, install the DLC. Each Player should choose whether or not the content is worthy of the set price; not other Players.
And if we find the that the content is unworthy of the set price, I suppose we're not justified in criticizing them?
Once again, I'm taking issue with the objective (as far as that can possibly be determined) value offered by these packs (amount of content versus price). It falls far short of the standard established by their previous offerings. The nature of what is included is such that I am naturally suspicious that's it's being released to exploit loyal fans rather than reward them.
There are other threads for this debate.
