Dragon Age Core Rulebook pre-orders are shipping next week! Standard version only; Ultimate Edition will follow in a week or so.

This is the best news for me. The book has been delayed twice.

I want it so bad... But dollar exchange price got into the sky here these last months. And the shipping from Green Ronin's store  kills me. They could sell it on Amazon too, would be easier...

Okay, so I don't play tabletop RPGs but is $60 normal for a rule book? I assume you need other stuff like dice and... a board? or cards? or something??

I'm not. I have good reasons to believe SP is coming... You just have to know where to look :)

So I looked where one might look... and now I know things  ;)

Well, yes, they have some seperation, like you said they're a division.

I like to think of EA like Sauron's forces and Bioware like the Shire when it had been conquered. They're still all part of Mordor, I just feel more empathy for one "division" than the other.

Nothing is as powerful as the evil:

That's a pretty standard price, yes. Paper RPGs are at least as expensive as computerised ones (although somewhat more tolerant of having coffee spilled on them.) Fortunately, the Green Ronin Dragon Age system doesn't need much extra equipment, just three six-sided dice that could easily be cannibalised from an ordinary board game if you didn't get them with the previous box set. It can help to have a map to show where everyone is during combat or other action scenes, but my group usually ends up using napkins and bottle caps or other stuff that's lying around.

Unfortunately Yes; a factor in why I no longer play them.

I don't have a good base, as I don't buy RPG books abroad so often. Sometimes I'm buying D&D 4th edition books to complete my collection, but now they're old (rare in some cases) and most of them are around US$20~30. But AGE system will require only the dices and I already have plenty of them here. I have even that beautiful Dragon Age dice set. =D

Here in Brazil, today, a RPG rulebook price is around R$100, while PC games price on release is R$130 (for AAA). Console games on release costs R$250. =/

Though to be fair, you can play a lot of different adventures with that rulebook, as opposed to the single campaign that comes from buying a game (without modding tools, at least) as long as you have a creative GM.

It's too much for a book. How much can it cost to produce in terms of man hours and resources? I can't believe it takes more than a handful of people to write almost all the content (assuming they know what they're doing - it's not like you need an advanced degree) and the rest of the cost is just editing, marketing and publishing. Maybe they're so expensive because they only sell to a small niche market (now that everyone's playing CRPGs)... What's an impoverished player to do though?

Sorry... off topic.

Well, it's pretty common that RPG rulebooks have higher quality paper, lots of illustration (artists get paid too), hardcover and a better presentation than the common books you see everyday. The Art of Dragon Age: Inquisition is these kind of "deluxe books", it's price was $40 (thanks Amazon!), the same as were the D&D 4th edition books at release. Some RPG supplements don't have the same "treatment" and are cheaper...

Agree with the other poster; tis only a book, and many seem to gain pleasure from other tomes with repeated readings (eg; LotR). While I can justify the costs for an occasional cRPG, chose to withdraw from purchasing more PnP products due to the increasing costs of materials.

Dragon Age haves a rulebook, already. o.O

The rules are there from beginning. In this rules mages can wear heavy armor, weapons and use countless spells for area damage and protection. And healing spells.

I like how everyone here is under the assumption that it must be one or the other (SP or MP) is it really so hard to believe that they could be releasing both at the same time?

That's gotta mean something right, also few minutes ago we had a guy on reddit who posted ''details'' of DLC supposed to come out this Tuesday, wont go into details but It sounded more than GOOD, unfortunatly it got deleted by mods there, but guys if it has anything true to it, this is gonna be more than great even, sounded like BioWare wants to make things right for all the angry fans

EDIT: Btw if its legit then there will be tears like loads of tears :D

Because it's two separate teams....

A lot of MP updates come from the SP, and most of the new weapons in MP recently came from JoH.  So when MP starts alluding to adding new items, it makes me curious about what SP DLC it's coming from...

Just a banter from the game between Varric an the Iron Bull, discussing why he chose Iron Bull as a name.

That’s over-simplifying things way too much. Regardless of what they are mainly working on, SP or MP, the developers are all part of the Dragon Age team as a whole and make their content in tandem with each other. It’s not like with ME3 where SP and MP were being made in separate studios and teams. Not to mention that the art assets used in MP will have been made for use in the SP first.
