Good afternoon. Today, I am writing on behalf of many of the fans on the Bioware Forums. We miss you.
We also miss the inviting, safe community that the forums used to be, and we want, as a community, to open a conversation with you about how we can work together to make the forums the kind of environment that the developers want to come back to. We miss interacting with you and we think that together, we can create the kind of fan community that others envy.
I believe, as do many others, that the current moderating system is broken. Moderators are extremely hard to track down, very few bother responding to inquiries at all, and it seems as though the rules are only enforced half the time. The response seems to be delete all posts rather than interact to root out the problem.
There is a clear set of rules for the forum, but I think they can be modified and redone completely and to really focus on the issues that continue to be a main concern. I don’t think dropping the occasional swear word is really the kind of things the moderators should be focused on. And you can’t moderate half the forum for swear words and let the other half go.
I think we could come up with, as a community, a list of rules that we think would make the forums a more positive, peaceful place to go, along with the rules that would allow the developers to feel safe to return. I think the moderation system should be completely overhauled. The current anonymous system is harmful and allows for the moderators to lack any real accountability. You could have levels of moderation, from volunteer moderators who can only move threads and add spoiler tags, to moderators who can actually warn and ban unruly posters.
Having more moderators in the upcoming months and years as we get into the new IP, along with Andromeda, would be beneficial. Maybe the problem is simply that there are too many threads and not enough moderators. It could take weeks to receive a message from a moderator, if you get a response at all.
We wonder what the future plans are for these forums? Some of us feel as though you’ve abandoned us for places like Reddit and Twitter- but we think that our reputation can be repaired and I think many people would like desperately to see this happen.
Tell us what we can do to make the Bioware Forum a place that people want to come- including the developers. We really want a happy, positive environment where we can talk about our favorite games- things we like, constructive criticism of the things we don’t, and what we wish to see in the future.
We’re passionate about our games, I think that much is clear. We hope that you’ll fall back in love with the fans as well.
P.S. Can we get the DA Twitter thread moved into the spoiler section?
