(Also, one of the companions might end up being a DLC character. They wouldn't want to imply they were going to be in the game lest they inflame the complaints about them being "cut".)

They were hinting about cullen before the trailer, so maybe they switched out which one they decided to go with. I bet we'll see him in the next reveal in July.
Wait, what? Another reveal in July? Am I missing something?

Yeah, nobody's mentioned anything about a reveal in July...
Bioware people possibly appearing at conventions doesn't mean they'll talk about Inquisition.

They are going to be at conventions, i forget which ones. I think Pax and Pax australia. But there's one in july, and one in august. They said we'd be learning more soon, so i just assumed now that the game is "offically offical" now, that they would be showing more, or at least be talking about it in a panel.

We're going to be at a number of conventions over the summer. We have already announced PAX Australia and we'll be announcing more soon.
However, just because we are attending a convention, that doesn't mean we will be releasing new information. It could mean that, but it doesn't have to mean that. Our purpose in going to events like PAX Australia, is to meet and talk with fans more than it is to release new information.

It's toe. As in toe a line in the sand that one does not cross.

Surveys are a way to see if some ideas are appealing to a target group and see their interests. The reason why it's not made public is because these thing are in flux. All the proposed companions could be NPCs now. Cassandra is wearing a different look (based on another concept art). Feature could have been dropped or changed in scope. The story could have been changed (the survey doesn't mention dargons darkening the sky for example).
The solid stuff we have, we already knew from DA2 and Asunder (Orlesian civil war, Mage/Templar war and the Chantry being on its knees). Hell, even the Inqusition was hinted at in DA2 official guide and by Gaider in interviews.
[snip]
I'm skeptical that things like companions were in such flux a year into development, especially when we know they were doing auditions and recording voice actors over a year ago in the middle of 2012. I'm also skeptical that marketing teams would even bother researching consumer attitudes to companions, game features or a story that could all change significantly - what's the point in finding out what people think of a character concept for marketing purposes if it - or something very like it - is not going to be used?
[snip]
I'm almost certain you're right about this point, if only because of what can be inferred from Word of Gaider:
"Maevaris came into being too far into DAI’s development process to be a party member for that game (ironically, by the time fans know nearly anything about a game the time for “big” suggestions is over). Like I mentioned before, however, I’m not done with her just yet. And that’s as much as I’ll say."
From this tumblr post.
The first issure of Those Who Speak was published in August 2012, and would have presumably been plotted and written some months before that. Based on what David's saying here, it would seem like they've had companions on lock for at least a year, likely much longer.

Damn. I can see it going both ways, you know? Toe the line as in stand on the edge without going over, following the rules, etc., or tow the line, as in reluctantly drag the party line behind you. Like it's a cement block attached to a rope and you're dragging it through sand. "I don't wanna pretend the survey doesn't exist but I guueesss I'll let it weigh down my speculations."
Anyway.

No, I mean about the Cullen hints. Pretty sure I would've noticed that one straight off the bat.

Somone asked, over twitter or on here, about cullen being in da:i, and the dev said that the trailer might answer our questions about him. I spent the last couple minutes looking for it, but am a little sleepy, so i'll look more later.

That wasn't a dev, that was Greg Ellis, Cullen's voice actor. He doesn't know if they're going to use his parts in the trailer.
