It's raining, right? So why are there fires?

I'm guessing those are braziers to help light the way to the gate and door. It shows that it's occupied, and possibly welcoming.

Alas,  it's already been said that the Inquisitor will be human.

Half elf's appear totally human so you can pretend your Inquisitor is half elf.

I wouldn't be surprised if one of the backgrounds was a half-elf human, actually. It provides a bit more variety without having to put resources into different voices and appearances.

Interesting, I hadn't considered that the half-elf could actually be doable.

Though I guess that the lack of external differences actually cuts both ways, in that a half-elf Inquisitor who looked fully human wouldn't get the immediate reactions or responses from random NPCs that some players would want from elf or dwarf characters. The variety would be internal, or perhaps some content related to the origin/background, but unless the player-character went around saying "hey I'm half-elf", it's hard for the rest of the gameworld to know that information on sight alone.

Also: it was posted in another thread but Jessica Merizan was slightly cryptic about customisation and the Inquisitor in this interview at E3, and hinted that a careful examination of the trailer had hints about the Inquisitor.

To be completely fair, half elves even in DA have slightly pointed ears and faces a tad longer than usual. Feynriel is an example.

:o

His two tweets kinda contradict each other, but if he's really not voicing Alistair perhaps they're using someone else - or the character isn't in the game at all.

Which would be odd, given the signposting in Act 3 of DA2 that Ferelden-Orlais tensions were on the rise. Wasn't it also mentioned in Asunder?

Edit: Yeah, just checked and the book suggests Celene tried to constrain factions within Orlais that wanted to re-invade Ferelden, but then the civil war came along.

And the OGB, which he probably fathered for a lot of people heh

I don't know much about voice acting... but I suppose there's still time for small scene(s) to be recorded? :? If not, my heart is broken. Alistair is my favorite character.

King Alistair also comments on it in his DA2 cameo. That's sort of why I had assumed he was a given for DA:I

DA2 was made in "18 months". DAI have a bit less than "18 months" left to go...

What reason is there to change Alistair's voice, if Steve Valentine would be willing to take the job? They wouldn't do that, would they?

I think his first tweet was trying to make it seem like Alistair was dead. I don't think they would change his voice. I'm more afraid that he won't appear in the game (for those of us who have a living Alistair lol), which is strange considering not only the comics but also the hints at the Orlais/Ferelden hostilities.

Sigh...... :(

Speculating, but hypothetically if they were to use someone else, it could be due to a scheduling or budget issue. Only other thing would be that Alistair is now ~ten years older, but then they're still using Claudia Black for Morrigan.

(Though, to me it'd make *zero* sense to switch voice actors for such an iconic character and risk a backlash; *not* using Steve Valentine if he's available would just seem really, really bizarre.)

If his tweets do mean that he hasn't been approached yet for DAI, it could mean that they're not using the character, or that they haven't got around to recording for him yet. Though I'd assume the voice actors would be told fairly early in the project that they'll be needed, to work out the contract/legal/logistics side of things.

Bioware have been doing voice recordings for other (companion?) characters for about a year now.

Edit: ... if not longer than a year, actually. A year ago was just when we first heard of audtions and booth recordings.

In the first one he was just being silly, he was saying he (Steve Valentine) as himself wasn't in the game, but that he (as the voice of Alistair) might be. It was a joke. Second tweet he's saying that he hasn't been asked to come back to do VO work yet.

Let's not forget there's over a year left before the game comes out, chances are they just haven't asked him yet, especially if it'll be another short cameo.

Why would an elf or dwarf require a different voice?

The wardens have been using Nugs in their operations for years.
