For the same reason we aren't wondering whether Solas created gravity as well as the veil?

While fantasy uses non real/realistic things, it does usually have a basis in real world physics, like swords moving if you swing them, or boats floating in water.

Yeah, except where it contradicts real world things, and then you accept it as fantasy. It's pointless to say "but all elf-human hybrids being 100% human makes no sense because genetics!", because it clearly is true, so genetics must not be a factor or work in a totally different way.

@davidgaider Hello! Can you please add Abelas as a companion and/or LI in DA4? He is gorgeous. Thank you, I love your games <3

@userThanks, though I cannot add anyone into DA4, I'm afraid. I am not on the DA project any longer.

I would love to have Abelas as a companion in the next game! He was such an interesting character.

I know he can, but maybe he was saved somehow! And as far as team Harding, I say why not both? I'm rooting for, and love both of them!

Edit: For the record I would probably prefer Harding over anyone from DAI as a companion in the next game, but I do love Abelas!

You know who can't die? I mean, they can die, but not really? The DAIMP characters. We should get ZITHER! back as a party member.

Why exactly are we trying to apply real-world genetics to a fantasy setting?

We've been told repeatedly that we shouldn't be trying to apply genetics to elven reproduction.  It's a magic thing.

Also, there's a codex somewhere in the Exalted Plains written by an elf-blooded man whose father was elven, and his human mother had kept it secret.

As far as applying real-world genetics to a fantasy setting, or more specifically Thedas, the writers gave strong suggestions themselves with the whole "Tevinter breeding" thing and trying to make the Kwisatz Haderach... erm ultimate Archon.

Humans have been breeding plants and animals for specific purposes for millennia. Even if they didn't fully understand everything about DNA and chromosomes until recently, they were still able to make use of selective breeding. So I don't think it's unreasonable to expect the people in Thedas to have a similar level of knowledge, which would only be enhanced by magic.

Then again, I do see pdusen's point. It's BioWare's world and they can give it any rules they want. So for us trying to say that it can or should be this way or that based on real-world stuff is not helpful in the sense that it can only lead to annoyance on the part of the player when the two don't match up.

I want to give some context to the latest tweets from several Bioware /EA voice actors- who don't actually seem to link the issue, but unless we as consumers understand it, it's irresponsible to support it.

http://www.sagaftra....e-stand-to-lose

That said, I'm a bit torn, because I hate for companies, even big companies like EA, to lose any part of the gameplay or performance, the game shouldn't suffer because extra money budgeted to the actors may have originally been budgeted to extra features. But I want the voice actors and performance actors to have fair contracts. I don't want the smaller companies to suffer over this. I'd like their side, besides greed, because there has to be something more.

The voice actors are the greedy ones. They do very minimal work and then want profit sharing because they think they deserve it. Developers work MUCH harder, and longer hours - even weekends - and are more deserving of bonus pay if anyone. If these big shots want to refuse work, it'll only be good for those non unionized actors starting in the industry looking to get a leg up. Nobody loses but that greedy lot. I see a lot of people saying "better they get the money rather than the 'greedy' publishers". Companies put profit back into their business's to grow it. The ones who benefit are those who work there, as well as the consumer. Anyone who suggests otherwise doesn't know how businesses operate.

... Not really sure it's fair to say they do minimal work, considering how much of even the BW/DA story's power and emotion is carried by voice acting. I can never imagine the last scene of Trespasser being as good - or as well-received - if it wasn't for absolutely superb voice acting done. Same with the base game.

Their demands are reasonable. Obviously, there would be some compromise (they're not going to get everything they want), but I didn't see anything outlandish in their proposals.

The one area in which I entirely side with the publishers is regarding motion capture. Voice actors have no business being involved in that.

Since we were on the topic, I am curious if elf-breeding is somehow similar to Asari, or, more or less, the opposite really.

Umm, no, it's just regular old intercourse. Insert Rod A into Slot B and so forth.

I meant more on how genetics come into play (Asari, apparently do not actually take any genes from the 'father' parent, but rather use it as a means to randomize their own genetics.) What if, in the case of elves, they are like the father in Asari reproduction?

Might be better to take discussion of elven genetics and the voice actors strike to their own threads...

This is a general question...

We were told that part of the reason they let go of last gen was so they would have more freedom to use certain technologies and such, and many people assumed they were talking about events or large-scale fights that would take place in the succeeding DLC.

I've played Trespasser, but not Descent yet. I also don't play MP. Was this shinier stuff actually put to use, or...? In terms of gameplay nothing in Trespasser seemed really new or different from the rest of the game.
