I have encountered more red templars, Venatori, and demons in my travels than is usual. I Scoff at the idea that these Villains are the true threat, for all who have studied the correct texts know the real danger lies beneath our feet: an Empire of Snake-Men living below the crust of the Earth, insidiously infiltrating the world's leaders and cities to prepare for the day they rise! Yet these Foes pose a Grave Danger to Lowlander Villages, and I have advised the Nightingale that the Agents of the Inquisition may do Good by helping these Innocents.

Technically, references to an ancient race of serpent men ruling the earth are as old as Robert E. Howard's Conan series. The serpent men are frequent enemies of Conan and Kull the Conqueror. They can take human form, but can be revealed by uttering the phrase "Kaa nama kaa lajerama."

 

However, I suspect the "snake men" theories are a reference to the beliefs of David Icke, who wrote a number of books stating humanity is being secretly controlled by a race of interdimensional reptilian humanoids. The man is crazy, obvioussssssssssssly.

They released the final patch for DA2 in March 2012 and officially confirmed that they were making another game in September 2012.

Maybe but remember we still don’t know what the plan is with the new IP. If that is planned to come out before the next DA game, and I’m going to assume right now that it is since some of the DA writers were moved onto it once they were finished with DAI, then we may not hear anything DA related for quite a while.

Well considering the first mentions of a new IP started around the end of ME3’s DLC cycle I’d wager it’s been in pre-dev for a good few years already, they’ve just got to the point where they can actually start making prototypes and writing the core story in the past year or so. It’s not beyond the realms of possibility for it to head into full time dev once ME:A is out the door but the decider will be as to whether anyone is interested in what the new IP is offering. Given how risk averse the industry is they could also press for the next DA game to come out first as for a lot of hardcore DA fans the next game is going to be a must buy from a purely story pov.

Eh, depends.  I wasn't following DAO until just a few months before release, but I gather that the concept for the game and the setting was essentially remade over the course of those six years.  If they're more decisive this time, that might not happen.
