However, I still really dislike the idea of the romance being tied to the plot, simply because it seems like it would be forcing the player to take the romance even if they don't want to. Can you imagine the outcry if Solas had managed to save a romanced Inquisitor's hand? That playing though a gender-gated, race-gated romance was the ONLY way to have that happen for your character? Even though I agree that it would make sense and be appropriate in context, it still would have been unbelievably crappy for the devs to do (I only came up with this as something not involving elven lore, which also seems like a plausible thing to happen in such a case).

I've done some runs of KotOR without the romance and it still works (not as well I will grant you, but the story still holds up). Less integral options are the Romance kidnap in BG2, and if you aren't romancing anyone I believe a specific companion (can't remember which atm) is kidnapped instead. But you are right that the 'best' ending cannot be locked behind specific race/class/romance (or other meta-game) choices. Jade Empire actually didn't tie the romance to the main plot much at all (some specific interactions changed slightly) and it still worked, so having the romance and main plots be connected isn't necessary. 

 

I'll also agree to the advantages and disadvantages of 'forced' companions. Imo the benefits outweighs the cost, but not everyone will agree.

Notice to All Inquisition Soldiers:

 

We've received word that Venatori, red templars, darkspawn, demons, and the Qunari have been sighted in large numbers, heading in a direction that would bring them all to Skyhold and arriving roughly at the same time.

It's too much to hope they might bump into one another and tear each other apart. Choose whichever faction you feel you're best suited to fight, report to your commanding officer, and take the field. We must reduce their numbers before they decimate ours.

Agent Goal:

PC/PS4/Xbox One: Kill 600 enemies from each faction

PS3/X360: Kill 300 enemies from each faction

I was disappointed when I first read this, because I'd been holding out the foolish hope that they'd told all the VAs whose characters might plausibly return to stand by for that possibility, but upon further reflection A. given all the uncertainties up until the last few months of game development, there is no way they'd ever do that at this stage and B. I should probably just be glad to learn that they didn't tell him

And he says that his company doesn´t make remakes because reasons.

 

I suspect the true reason is that remakes won´t sell as well as a new game, (with some exceptions of course.)

Nothing wrong with that. I don´t mind a company which wants to survive and make money.

 

The whole statement is strange. (We don´t do that... It´s not our culture... Push forward.) They publish games, but make it sound like the moon landing.

I have to admit, those are kind of amazing numbers.  I knew that human and elf would be the 'majority', but by that large an amount?

 

Dwarves and Qunari came off as relative afterthoughts (Male Elf skeleton issues aside).

 

If DA4 decides on race selection (AND I HOPE IT DOES), and that decision is made earlier in development, I can see Dwarves and Qunari to get 25% or more (together).

 

50% Human is entirely expected. The only slight surprise is seeing that Elves got over 25% instead of a more even split than that.

 

First playthrough for most will be Human. We have to understand that's how things are. Whether its the players' 'definitive' Inquisitor is another matter.

 

I'm willing to focus a lot more on a (Female) Dwarf and a (Male of Female) Qunari if DA4 gets that I don't want to feel shafted for that choice (for animations, voice?, lore and RP context, gear, etc).

 

I consider DAI a good test run, but that's about it. Make DA4 the real thing PLZ. Especially if they take up to 2018 to release it.

Two, he gave a pretty concrete reason: They take up time that EA doesn't have to devote to remakes.
