@user @BioMarkDarrah I love ME3 MP too! No plans for #Inquisition at this time - very focused on the SP currently; it needs to be great

I'm having that as a bumper sticker now I'm happy because I disliked mp in me3

If they do include MP in Inquisition, I just hope it'll have no bearing on the SP mode of the game...because eventhough they said it wouldn't, in ME3 MP did have an impact on the SP mode, less so when they released the Extended Cut...but it was still annoying <_<

Agreed. I hated the fact that originally you had to play MP to get your readiness score high enough to make your war assets amount to something. Even after the EC came out and lowered the requirements needed for the "best' ending (such as it was) I still wasn't too jazzed about MP tying directly into the game.

Now whenever I play ME3 I just hack the save and calculate the assets needed for 100% without MP.

Yeah, she's annoying but Diana Allers now gives me 8792 asset points.  I can live with it. Image IPB

What was perhaps more annoying about the way ME3's multiplayer tied into the singleplayer campaign was that the Galaxy at War and War Assets systems reduced a lot of interesting choices to a numerical value (in which, absurdly, a cruiser was deemed to be worth 436.7 Spectres, or something stupid), and based the final decision on an arbitrary number instead of the combinations or permutations of things we'd actually done. Rather than being like ME2's Suicide Mission on steroids, with heaps of complexity and reactivity to player choices, the final level was entirely linear and the interaction at the end had little if anything to do with the decisions we'd made over the game (and, I guess, the games before it).

I felt like ME3's campaign was frustratingly compromised by the need for the iOS apps and multiplayer to have some effect on the Galactic Readiness system, which turned the final choice into a number-based problem that felt detached from the rest of the game. That's not to say that without War Assets/GR the final level would've been much more interactive, but it was disappointing that the points system seemed to exercise so much influence on the way the singleplayer was structured, and the way the narrative played out.

DA has an interesting precedent in how it handled the Battle for Amaranthine (in terms of upgrading the fortress and assigning armies), I'd love to think the game will emphasise consequences for individual player choices in the narrative *far* more than using a tally of arbitrary numbers to determine plot outcomes or the ending.

Like, even if there's no MP, but if the game has some measurement of "order" in Thedas (or territory controlled, etc), it'd be unfortunate if responding to the individual choices themselves was rendered less important than reaching [X percent/points] to receive [Y outcome]. IMO arbitrary and visible numerical value systems are a poor replacement for having the game react to the actual characters, factions or places that the player chose to support. Maybe hiding the number-crunching in the background, if it needs to be done at all, is a better idea.

So it will be on the 360 and ps3 as well? This is a confirmed statement? I keep getting people telling me that its next gen only at my work... Sorry the article is not longer there, and google keeps giving me mixed answers.

By the way will our saves matter from DA:O / Awakening / DA2? Please let me know asap need to do millions of saves if so! thanks :)

I believe that you will be able to import your saves. It was said there was an issue with importing because of the changeover in game engines  However, the devs did say they were 'working on it' in the Pax East discussion (the link of which is below.  Check around the 5-minute mark).

That being said, it's been also mentioned that the designers also want the game to stand on its own. So if the player has not played DA:O/A or DA2 (or chooses to import some or none of their previous games' saves) they can do that as well.

Here's the link:

Hope this helps! :)

Thank you, Much appreciated missed that event online! Time to go hammer out some DA:O / Awakening + DA2 :D
Thank's again!

Also instead of any kind of "MP" for any future DA.. Personally would feel like a co-op story would most likely work alot better wouldn't take much if anything from SP ? I dont know but would love to play through with friends that love the game aswell :) Wanted Co-op for ME3 not MP would have been nicer but i guess they couldn't cos' of the main character ending scenario ah well maybe possible for me4 but doubtful :(

I want to go to Dragon Con... D:
Well, in any case, as I said before I am glad that DA:I will be multi-generational. What I do hope is that someone will get a recording of Dragon Con since I can't go this year...

Anyway, in the meantime I made another tribute video while I was working on my recordings for my Let's Play. (My Let's Play will help me fill that void...at least for a few months.)

Anyway, it's good to know from the DA team that they're focusing on the single player experience. They got more than a year so I think they've got plenty of time to make the single player campaign really fantastic. (Also maybe some more character customization options... those are always good...)

What I am still curious about are the various backgrounds we will supposedly be able to pick from. Also some of the creatures and new abilities they might implement in the new game.

I'll be playing as a mage for my canon non-Let's Play run, and a rogue for my let's play run since for my Let's Play my warden is a warrior and the plan is for my Hawke to be a mage. So My let's play will have a character from every base class.

I'd also like to see if they're going to implement the new specialization system the way they talked about- only having 1 specialization but having it actually have significant bearing. (Which I am all for. Also maybe have more abilities for a specialization since we might only have one?)

It's funny that I'm a person who cares more about story and characters usually, but I don't want to be spoiled too much about companions and LIs before I get the game... though that might happen anyways...But, the more I play the more fun I have with the game mechanics.

I'm actually thinking about trying certain areas on harder difficulty for a challenge. (Except the fade and the Zombie attack on Redcliffe - because I don't particularly like those sections.) But, my Let's play shall be the primary focus now that I have a giant storage system to keep backups of all my videos.

...And here I go, rambling. ONWARD!

An interesting video from DICE on some of the new features in Frostbite 3:

(They seem really excited about that networked water simulation and "parallax animation in the iris".)

Multi gen game means that they want to appeal to players with PS3 and X360, which also means that this game is for 4 consoles and one pc ;] which is making me afraid for the combat system - afraid that BW won't learn anything about DA2 except bigger locations... ><

I wonder if DA3 will have building destruction. Probably not, mages might just become too OP with it.

Shapeshift into a high dragon in a bedroom and take out half the building would be a good laugh.

^ Possibly, but I think building destruction on the scale of Battlefield is very unlikely. Environmental destruction is generally associated more with shooters than RPGs - it's also a component of BF4's multiplayer, where the levels are 'reset' at the start of every match. Optional building destruction could be weird (depending on the severity) in DA, if the player has to repeatedly come back to the area.

I was most impressed by the forests and trees in that clip - especially the way they're bent by wind and explosions, it looked pretty incredible. We've been hearing for a while that DICE, Bioware and the other studios using FB3 (Victory? Visceral too now, I guess) are all coordinating on updates and refinements to the engine, which is pretty cool.

I think demolition to some extend would be quite nice... not tearing down buildings but damaging them on the outside.

That's awesome.

ETA: Oh, hey, when's the next Sprint Review Day? I'm not clear on how often those happen.

They happen once a month, the last few were on the begining of the month. We might have one in 1-2 weeks.

In fact, practically every non-sports game developed at EA now will use Frostbite, which - if you believe the hype - means a lot more improvements and refinements are shared across studios. In theory, it's meant to make development less costly and more efficient, since EA isn't supporting a dozen or more (two dozen?) engines across all their games and studios.

Getting the engine running properly for all those game genres seems like a lot of work initially (and it looks like that's partly a reason for DAI's delay?) but according to the executives it will pay off in the long-run as each studio refines FB3 and makes new features that can be useful for other teams. There was an article just the other day about how some of the code developed for DAI is going to be used as a basis for the next Mass Effect's systems, which instantly cuts down on some of the preparation work for that team.

Then, I suppose, some of the new things that Bioware Montreal do for Mass Effect will be recycled in the next year or so back into the Frostbite 3 codebase for DA: Inquisition. Ideally.

I think I saw Matthew Goldman at 3:30. He was an Art Director for Dragon Age ][.
