I was on DAI for 3 years (and some change) and there are STILL things about that game that I'm learning.

A few days late, but David Gaider tweeted that there will be no more Dragon Age books coming from him.
(That's a bit obvious but people were wondering, especially since he had that idea for a Fenris thing ashes ago.)
Does this mean Fenris has been cremated?

Catching up on Supernatural, god help me. Starting s10

I love Mark Sheppard. I just liked Crowley better as tempter than as big bad himself.
User
Yep, exactly. Metatron is such a boring bad guy tho
Patrick Weekes @PatrickWeekes
Does it help if you retcon him as having been Metatron for the entirety of Revenge of the Nerds?
Patrick Weekes @PatrickWeekes
Also not any slam on Mark Sheppard or Crowley in general. I just think we have a dearth of tempters in media.
I think you mean choice spirits.
Patrick Weekes @PatrickWeekes
It's not like I was thinking of Mark Sheppard the ENTIRE time I wrote Imshael in Masked Empire.
User
Aw man. How cool would it have been to get him to voice him. He’s got the best voice.
Of note, Mark is the voice of the Warden in the Sacred Ashes trailer.

Whaaaat?! Now I have to go back and watch that trailer. Mark Sheppard is awesome. He makes everything he is in better.
Just watched the trailer again and was surprised how well it still holds up today... and how much of the animation of the dragons in DA:I are similar to the SA trailer.

Interesting! I wasn't familiar with that studio, but it looks like several of their team members are former BioWare employees. (Not to mention working on old BioWare games.)
If "Dave" is the Dave we're all thinking it might be, I can totally understand the desire to work with a smaller team and a smaller game again. The AAA world is getting out of hand, really. They're so expensive and need so many people and so much time. He probably knows a bunch of the people there already, too.
Plus, given that they've apparently been expanding recently, maybe it means that they're beginning development on a brand new game? (As in, not Baldur's Gate related?)

Does Dorian have a Middle Name?
Not that's ever come up. He might, but it he does it's as of yet indeterminate.
Thanks for this one

would you help to ease one's mind about timescale for DAI? From Haven to Corypheus = 1 year or rather 3?
We didn’t specify, but I have always felt it was closer to one.
I generally prefer the whole "we didn't specify" thing, and will continue to stick with that. I mean, I wrote an entire blog post on the possible length of the DAI timeline. It's still pretty fluid, but I think allows most players to go by their own canon.

When did he tweet this? I do tend to check his twitter every few days, but I might have missed it if it was a response to someone else.

Wait... just how long does it take to zig-zag across Ferelden and Orlais 812 times?

Thanks for the tweet.
Also, because we have the concrete times of the Conclave in 9:41 (unknown month), a stated gap of two years, and the Exalted Council in 9:44 (unknown month), we have to assume that the main game takes place somewhere in there with a gap of two years thrown in. The player's question inquiring of a possible length of three years is not at all possible, which I account for in the blog post. In fact, the maximum possible time is 1 year, 11 months.
Regardless of how ridiculous it seems when you account for the considerable travel time (and I agree it does seem silly), particularly when you consider distant places like the Western Approach, those specific references to time are what have to be used. The travel time is why I lean toward the longer side of the time estimate, while still keeping within the hard limits the game has established.
And to be frank, if Mike Laidlaw really felt that, and the devs think of it that way (or some other time period), there should have been actual reference to it in the game. I'm not talking about hard numbers and dates, but a general reference to the passage of time thrown in as a random dialogue, or line of a codex, similar to Wynne's remark referencing the passage of a year in DAO.
I really don't understand why they feel the need for such vagueness, and was actually quite surprised that they got as detailed as they did with the Trespasser related dates.

I'm a little shocked that what seems like a smallish studio (Beamdog) can afford somebody as senior as David Gaider... I mean, presumably he wouldn't take a pay cut if he was moving jobs, and he'd been at Bioware for 17 years. It's not like game dev salaries are insanely high, but even so...

I have met David Gaider at the Edmonton Expo in 2014. I would guess he's in his 40s, so not close to retiring.
Possibly also of note about Beamdog's recent new hires is that Tom Rhodes is Matt Rhodes' brother and also a BioWare alumnus.

Artists could start their own design research if they know some basics. I mean, they're not going to pay artists to sit around with nothing to do, right?
For example, if they know the general hub location that is planned, they could start iterating on diversity with the established styles. For example, if they knew for sure the bulk of the game were happening in, say, Tevinter (cough), and they have some things already established about the fashion and architecture from Inquisition, artists could start drawing lots and lots of iterations of buildings and clothing even without knowing specific locations or characters.
Unless those artists are working on other games. I would expect that maybe a few core team members (or even just the lead artist) could be doing this kind of research, though. Maybe even helping with making decisions on where to visit in the next game.
They don't even have to do locations. Just start drawing outfits or something.

The amount of (canon) time that had passed in the game doesn't bother me unless it was ridiculously short or long. It's just hilarious to think how the Inquisitor would pack up and travel hundreds, thousands of miles for the most trivial reasons. I think my completist playthroughs would probably have taken somewhere in the neighborhood of, oh... 15 years. ![]()
