As for a toolset, I'd still bet against it. Frankly, expect not to get it, so that you can't get your hopes up and be disappointed if you don't get it.

Do you think the game will be somewhat moddable without a toolset? I'm talking about texture mods, for instance, so nothing fancy like "Baldur's Gate remake".

A good thing about having an engine that is used for many games like Frostbite 3 will is that it's possible that modding tools that are made for other games (like whatever Battlefield is out by the time DA:I comes out) could be modified for use with this game.

It's obviously not going to be the same, and I will still be sad about no DA specific toolset, but it's something to be hopeful about.  I just think being part of a modding community for any given game is one of my favorite parts of gaming, and games that have toolsets have bigger, better, longer lasting modding communities.

They said Fall 2014, not September 2014. It's right on the trailer.

That's an interesting point about the universality of the engine, but for whatever it's worth DICE have ruled out modding support or tools for Battlefield 4, and they said a couple of years ago that Frostbite 2 for Battlefield 3 was too complex to easily support user modding.

(Though, did people manage to get mods working with Battlefield 3 anyway? I haven't played it.)

I think there would probably be separate issues in DAI's case with both the proprietary tools that Bioware uses in development (its conversation editors?) and the complexity of making modding tools for an engine that's already been modified to fit the RPG genre.

It may be that the time or resource investment required for making modding tools isn't seen as making sense financially (or, perhaps, it's just prohibitively difficult to do), but I can't blame PC players or modders for being disappointed. Mod support is probably a fairly low-priority feature if the team have their hands full just finishing and polishing the game as it is now.

Promotion would include free roundtrip airline tickets good from anywhere in the world, meals and accomodations at a 4 star hotel and free transportation to and from the Bioware studios located in scenic Edmonton Alberta Canada. All courtesy of EA and Bioware.

Big 'evil' EA and BioWare have done this before, some promotion wise (see the event before DAO started) and some not strictly promotion but getting feedback from fans on certain parts of the game for DAO.  They invested a reasonable amount of money for the benefit of fans.

New Bioware promotion. Win a voice acting role in Dragon Age I nquisition. Details to follow.

These sorts of contests never work out very well. They're awful from an artistic perspective and usually from the fan's perspective, since you're not going to give someone with potentially no acting experience more than two lines.

Irrational Games held a contest where one fan got to have his name attached to the company that makes the automated horses in Columbia ("Payton Lane Easter").That seems like an OK idea to me.

The Witcher 2 had a "get your face in the game" contest. I never realised who it was until they revealed it.

I still think the VA thing is fine. It gives actors a chance to get recognised. The problem is the idiots who might show up, but I'm sure BioWare won't include them.

As did Rockstar when they made Batman: Arkham Asylum — one of the lunatics resembled a fan who won a contest. I found it kind of off-putting, as it was clear that guy didn't belong there.

I myself have little interest in seeing my ugly mug immortalized in a video game.

In my experience "not making financial sense" and "prohibitively difficult" are usually highly related. Though BF4 isn't going to release them, I wouldn't count on DAI having an end-user editor.

You mean Rocksteady.

Rockstar had nothing to do with the Arkham series. :innocent:

Oh right, Rocksteady, like the song. Rockstar does Grand Theft Auto. My mistake.

I feel some people are too easily dismissive of the mod community. It is absolutely huge. For DAI to have tons of mods would only add to its popularity and success.

MODEDIT: Removed some unnecessary, off topic messages to start this post off regarding moderating.

Modders are very creative. KOTOR, DAII, and the ME series...none of these were released with toolsets. And there are a bunch of mods floating out there for each of them, including more extensive mods like MEHEM.

How can you mod a game with a toolkit. Would take a lot of trial and error. Is there anybody who is a BSN member who is confident they could successfully mod the test pc version of the game without a toolkit?

But let's be honest, MEHEM is a mess and is only popular because the actual ending of ME3 is so horrendous to so many.
And you're not taking the engines themselves into account. The Frostbite engines are designed to be unmoddable according to DICE. They take great pride in making modding very difficult.

Most games are data driven, meaning that the data is separate from the source code.  So to change a lot of things in the most games you can alter the data files directly.

I don't think that voice thing is gonna happen. Again, not everyone is a voice actor. "your face in game" is a better idea imo. Irrational short of did this with Bioshock Infinite when they hired a cosplayer (who did cosplay Elizabeth amazingly well) as their official face model for the game promotion campaign. They would just scan your face, you don't need to be an actor for that.

All right, just to make it clear there is no such promotion. We should probably keep this thread towards tidbits that are from twitter, and more attributable quotes in general, as opposed to sharing some silly ideas for fun.

That's what happens when there isn't any new information. People make stuff up to keep themselves entertained. Fox News does it all the time.

You know we would not be asking for the toolset if it was not a big aspect for most of the modding community, to be honest and fair most of the hair styles in the current games have been horrible.

sometimes textures need to be approved on,if you don't want us to have a toolset in fear of loosing money, ( I've seen modders do brilliant stuff), maybe add somthing that lets us modify the current hair styles and armor textures and whatnot.(maybe by adding an in game tool that lets us change the appearance of an object, for example- hair, give us the option to make it long or short, or even have a fringe, for different variates)

I'm sorry if I am sounding rude mean or whatever but thats how I see it,

If I'm reading your post correctly you're asking for more customisation in the game, if the ability to mod it isn't something that's going to be supported? More customisation is always awesome.

I'd rather in-game customisation than external modding support - not that the two are at all mutually exclusive - because ultimately I'd like to think development time was spent on content that people could directly engage with in DA Inquisition, rather than on tools that people could use to make their own content (but only on PC, and only as the fraction of players that even engage with modding). Of course, modding can be fantastic, but not if creating the toolset is so difficult that other parts of the game are compromised as a result. I think people also (probably justifiably) get very passionate about their favourite feature (like modifying hair, or something), and want a tonne of resources devoted to that feature even if it's impractical or impossible given competing priorities.

Customisation of armour seems to be something they're particularly emphasising for DAI; that blog post and other sources seem to mention changing things like texture, material, colour and appearance for individual armour and robes as an eventual target feature.
