So we've had two male qunari party members in DAO and DAI. Any chance of a strong female qunari next?

Spoiler

Patrick Weekes ‏@PatrickWeekes

Definitely a chance. We like doing character types we haven't done before, and that would be a biggie in hypothetical future game.

Now I kinda wonder if they'll bring Rasaan in for the next game...

@BioMarkDarrah what kinds of scenes do you like writing the most as a writer?

Mark Darrah @BioMarkDarrah

not actually a writer. I like to make @PatrickWeekes not use the letter T

Patrick Weekes @PatrickWeekes

I very much dislike such heavy excision, as words come slowly in said fashion.

Muppet Camel Express @mel_f_lem

oh bravo, sir.

John Epler @ Home @eplerjc

now do 'e'.

Patrick Weekes @PatrickWeekes

John, you giant hurtful bag of *****.

Muppet Camel Express @mel_f_lem

now do it without the three act structure or the hero's journey

That's not really true. Just off the top of my head: we haven't had a Tal'Vashoth who's a Tal'Vashoth from the start of the game, a Fog Warrior, an Ash Warrior (with a hound!), a Rivani Seer, a Nevarran dragon hunter or Mortalitasi, an Avvar, a Chasind, a person from the Anderfels who actually lived there and talks about it, a dwarf from Kal'Sharok or the Tevinter Ambassadoria.

Which is not to say I don't want to see a Chevalier companion, if it makes sense for the story, but there are many other groups and factions that also aren't represented yet.

Those factions are local and have no reason to interfere in incoming "humans-elves" conflict.

1) There's not necessarily going to be a "humans-elves" conflict.

2) Most of those factions Andraste_Reborn mentioned are human, so they'd actually be half the conflict.

3) Chevaliers have some vested interest that's greater than the others', how???

The next game won't just deal with a conflict between humans and elves. We're probably going to Tevinter, and the war with the Qunari might be heating up. A Tal'Vashoth, Fog Warrior or Ambassadoria dwarf would certainly have a view on that conflict, and the Anderfells are right next door to Tevinter. I agree that Ash Warriors and Avvar and Rivani and so on are less likely possibilities, but I was just listing examples of groups that haven't been represented as companions yet.

And how are Orlesian Chevaliers not a local faction, just like most of the groups I mentioned?

Tis obvious; Shale and her mate Feynriel have united much of Tevinter in a war against fowl corruption in the land....

Patrick Weekes @PatrickWeekes

2000-ish words, many of them non-sucky, I think! Later will do pass to hit my characters' emotions more explicitly, as I always botch that.

Patrick Weekes @PatrickWeekes

Down-side of game writing: used to great cinematics and VO, so I tend to write lines in novel and assume that VO, staging will sell them.

Patrick Weekes @PatrickWeekes

Then people go, "I had no idea your char was sad here," and I'm like, "But can't you imagine how she sounded when she said she ohhh right."

So, that's the most upfront admission he's writing a new videogame character we've gotten so far, right?

No, he tweeted earlier that it's "novel writing" time.

Any chance it might be a new DA book? I'm not really up to date with what to expect in the next 2-3 years.

I'm not sure? But I suspect it might be his own novel.

I hope so too. Much as I appreciate them releasing the Magekiller series, what I really want while I wait for DA4 is a full-length novel to get immersed in and hyped about. Plus Weekes was fantastic when he wrote The Masked Empire.

Who knows he might do a novel about Tevinter before DA4 like he did with Orlais. Some groundwork to explain the political situtaion and tension with Qunari.

That's what I meant by the past three. They're boring and I hope they make the next one better than Witcher.

Call me crazy, but if I played the first three games in a series and considered them boring, I would not cross my fingers and hope that the fourth title would suddenly start appealing to me.

I found Grand Theft Auto IV to be pretty boring myself, so I didn't go out and buy Grand Theft Auto V thinking, "Surely the next installment in this popular franchise will change its gameplay to suit my tastes!"

I would really enjoy a new Dragon Age novel. I enjoyed The Masked Empire, and I have also been reading Patrick Weekes The Republic Series. I really enjoy his writing and character development.

To be honest...I just need anything Dragon Age related (except Heroes of Dragon Age, I can't stomach it.)

You don't like DA and The Witcher was not satisfying enough? You don't ask for much, do you?
