^ Totally unrelated... but what is that weird weapon on your Inquisitor's back? It looks like they have two long fluorescent light bulbs sticking up there. o_O

That's Chromatic Greatsword. Probably a glitch that you see two (my bet - caused by Elusive effect).

^^ what Rascoth said :)

here without Elusive

John Epler @ Home @eplerjc

Something that came up at GDC - my job title is not super clear on what, exactly, I actually do. So! Clarity.

John Epler @ Home @eplerjc

I handle - cinematics, ambient life, cameras. The 'how' of the narrative experience, or how we take the story and present it to the player.

User

does your job title mean you control how the story in a game is communicated to players?

John Epler @ Home @eplerjc

Absolutely a big part of it. I collaborate with @PatrickWeekes and gameplay/level design on that. We figure out the best tools.

John Epler @ Home @eplerjc

So if you ever wanted to know what a Narrative Presentation Lead does, that's p. much it.

John Epler @ Home @eplerjc

It's about moment-to-moment player experience from an emotional and narrative perspective. Work with design who handles the gameplay side.

Ben Gelinas @bengelinas

I think it would be a lot clearer if you just called yourself History's Greatest Monster on your business cards.

Like these guys?

They're practicing fire safety. One of the local bears stopped by and lectured them at length about forest fire prevention.

So we could blame John for 'non-cinematic conversations', right?

We had DAI three and a half years after DA2, and that was working with a whole new engine. Aside from this "one game per year" rule, why would it take five years for a new DA title? Do we even have any indication what the new IP is, let alone that it'll launch in 2018?

For what it's worth (which is absolutely nothing, since I'm just guessing) the reason I'd bet on a 2019 date for DA4 is that only has a skeleton crew right now, whereas the Sekrit New IP has a whole team and has been in full production for quite a while. That makes it seem as though the Sekrit New IP, whatever the heck it is, will launch before DA4.

This isn't the same situation as DAO to DA2, or DA2 to DAI, where they kept a larger team working on the franchise throughout. I'd expect at least two years of full production for DA4. They might make November 2018 if they ramp up in the next few months, but that seems like the absolute earliest plausible date to me. Considering that DLC for the Sekrit New IP might still be coming out by then, my entirely imaginary money is on March 2019 instead.

I've heard nothing in regards to the number of people working on what and where. But even so, being a new IP, I would expect quite a few people to be working on it, since they're having to design a world from the ground up.

Well, yes. But I think the salient point is that DA4 only has one writer at the moment. This makes me think it's more than two years away, or Patrick Weekes is getting through a loooooot of coffee.

Don't forget that they also have a substantial number of people at Bioware Austin who are working on Andromeda and the new IP, and who can transfer to DA4 as needed.

That said, I agree with people in this thread that the new IP is the second focus at the moment after Andromeda. We won't be seeing DA4 until after those two launch, even if it seems like they *should* be finishing it within a couple (three?) years this time.

Ever since The Descent came out, I've been wondering if Hall Hood and Courtney Woods are going to end up on DA4. They did a good job with the DLC, so I'd be happy to have them working on Dragon Age full time. Don't know how that would fit in with whatever BioWare Austin are doing these days, though.

Hopefully the tactical DA game comes to fruition. could be fun side project to fill the gap between DAI and DA4.

Mike Laidlaw @Mike_Laidlaw

I think if the opportunity ever came up to cast a DA movie, I'd look to Morena Baccarin for Cassandra. (No, this has not come up recently.)

Mike Laidlaw @Mike_Laidlaw

You could argue she plays too soft/sweet, but I watched the V remake.

Nick Sadler @Zenderquai

how bout the girl who played Electra, recently..?

Blair Brown @TheFiddzz

but cass is soft and sweet, so it's perfect

He's right. Morena could totally pull off Cass. Lady can act.

And I would not be opposed to Cumberbatch Solas. XD

I think this is the Conal from the spit take vids, right? Is he in the art department? And he's editing fireball images??? (Development of DA4 confirmed?)

YES

NO! Cumberbatch would look awful with a bald head.

Joseph Fiennes would be my suggestion. He was amazing as Merlin in Camelot.

While I do recognize that your argument may have merit, I would respectfully disagree, as far as its base characteristics are concerned, and, if you kindly allow, present a counter-argument to your doubtlessly well thought-out postulation.

If Claudia Black could not do it, I would hope she gives the nod to her on-screen study because nobody could replace her, IMO.

P.S. Would rather see Tom Hiddleston as Solas; already has Loki in his repertoire :D
