Guys
*snip*
I'm sorry.
.
Huh, I figured that this might have happened.
Lot of folks making assumptions about a DA book I was working on, as if it were announced. It never was, and it just never happened.

It existed at one time though. He got quite snarky at me about it...

Hm, I think he's being a little unreasonable here. I mean, the tweets he made (almost exactly a year ago, you can still Google them) mentioned that he was writing Fenris again, and that it was for a book. It wasn't World of Thedas (which came out a week later), so what were people supposed to think?
Fair enough that plans change, and I don't think anyone really thought he'd be releasing a novel after leaving Bioware, but Gaider didn't give any indication that he'd stopped working on it after tweeting a year ago that he was writing a book.
He also could've passed on the novel, or at least the storyline, to the writing team to incorporate into future works.

Apparently he "doesn't remember" making the tweet announcing it's a book...
Excuse me, but is this really news? I don't have it at hand, but I distinctly recall a tweet from Gaider when someone said they couldn't wait to read his next Dragon Age novel, and he said they'd be waiting for a very long time. It seemed obvious that it wasn't happening.
Not everyone follows all of the devs, or even this thread, closely. IMO it's good to have a definitive answer on the subject.

Well, it likely didn't help that I kept seeing people refer to it as "the Fenris book" and so on, when that was never stated. However, you'd think that by now he would be used to every word he says related to Dragon Age being picked apart and repeated elsewhere out of context. But as this seems like the final loose end of his connection to the series, I doubt he has to worry about it any longer.

I take it back. Evidently I *did* clarify I was writing a book, and forgot I did. Not an announcement per se, but not out of nowhere either.
He's being quite nice about it, haha.
(Easy mistake to make I guess, I don't remember stuff I said a week ago let alone a year.)
well, since he left the DA and Bioware it was obvious that he couldn't continue with the book, since that would be like working for two major houses ? Like conflict of interests or something?

Not necessarily. They could have hired him as a third party, like with Liane Merciel (not a BW writer) who wrote The Last Flight.
His statement to Lady Insanity says that it never "clicked." I don't know if those are his words or a paraphrase, but it could mean any number of things. I don't think the novel was scrapped solely as a result of his leaving Bioware, though it may have had an impact.

Imagine someone asking you the same question over and over and over regardless of what you say. Now multiple that by all the people on Twitter asking about the book. It gets a little old after the first few hundred.

Mm, it wasn't like people were asking about the novel regardless of what he said, though. He didn't say anything. Last we heard the book was still being worked on, and that was a year ago.
I also don't think it was hundreds or even dozens of people asking him that question, as far as I'm aware it was only BioFan and then Gaider got a bit grumpy with his reply.
I'm sympathetic to devs who have to field hundreds of questions on Twitter (and, to be fair, Tumblr's sometimes crazy culture seemed to drive David Gaider away from that platform) but I was just surprised at how cranky he seemed in that particular exchange.

Comics come out on Wednesday, I'm pretty sure.

There were maybe 10 that I saw, but it was mostly in response to his tweets. More responses than questions when I looked. His snark was a little out of nowhere ![]()
The folks at BioWare are adorable.
On a separate note, we are supposed to get Magekiller 5 today, right?
Should be out at midnight PST.
