Mark Darrah @BioMarkDarrah

Ok in *ALL* seriousness: why is the mother Ganders? I get the reference but a gander is a boy goose.

User

for the same reason all the goats in DAI are called "rams" which are male sheep?

Mark Darrah @BioMarkDarrah

Well actually, there is a bit of lore behind goats in the Dragon Age universe...

#SpoilerAlert

User

but if they're all male how do they breed?? They can't *all* be abominations.

Mark Darrah @BioMarkDarrah

How indeed?

Patrick Weekes @PatrickWeekes

Abaaaminations.

I think we should breed animals at BioWare more often. Tigers? Pigeons? Elephants?

Canonically the human countries on Thedas speak different languages or is just in english with certain accents?

Mark Darrah @BioMarkDarrah

None of them speak English. More than that I don't think we have established have we @Mike_Laidlaw

(Actually, the canon is that the dwarves imposed a single language on the surface races to expedite trade.)

I think "imposed" might be the wrong word here. It seems natural to me that, once the dwarves started relations with Tevinter, a single trade language would emerge. Judging by the dwarves in Orzammar, the original dwarven tongue has fallen out of use as well in favor of the trade tongue. Due to Tevinter's expansion and influence, it spread farther and wider over the surface and just remained as the primary language of Thedas.

Of course, if it's depicted as them imposing it in World of Thedas or something, then never mind...

I remember there being some discussion about this some months back. Apparently the dwarves essentially said - you're using our language and monetary system or we're not trading and the surface races quickly fell in line. It wasn't a collaborate language, it was one the dwarves developed to trade with one another (eventually supplanting most of their other languages) and then brought to the surface races.

Dunno about official confirmation, but they wouldn't have the Secret Red Book reveal if they didn't mean business. That was no 'oops' moment' - I mean, have you seen Darrah's twitter? :D He pretty much rubs Secret Red Books in our faces ;) IMO it was the sign for floodgates to open. We won't get official confirmation for a while, IMO, but there might be quite a lot *wink-wink, nudge-nudge* moments, like before Trespasser.

Jo Berry @Joanna_Berry

Back to my Calpernia sculpt today. Lots of finicky work on her hands, but building the book was fun. Next: her face.

ooo it's coming along! Is she sitting on a coffin?

Jo Berry @Joanna_Berry

She's sitting (or will be when it's detailed) on a piece of fallen masonry with a Tevinter-ish dragon on it.

And for months we've been putting up with varying levels of teasing tweets and meetings between the DA dept. heads. We've known for quite a while now that something DA-related is in the works. It's just a question of what will reach us first - DA4 or a spin-off game (eg. Tactics game, etc.).  ;)

Wouldn't surprise me if the "trade language" started as a mishmash of ancient dwarven and Tevene that grew together and evolved into a completely separate language.

Yeah but smooching in a Tactics game? Smooching is far more likely in DA4, in my wee widdle humble opinion of small import.  B)

Fire Emblem is a strategy game franchise and it has romances.
