This comment along with the request to kill the fox make me think that environmental creatures are going to be killable and at the mercy of the player love for cutness. Maybe they picked a few more things from Skyrim than just the "open world" feel...

 If there are tormentable chickens, my sister will be happy.    Seriously, she was watching me play Awakening once, and I was showing her some of the animals that hang around outside of Amaranthine City, and she wanted to know if I could kill the chickens.  Being able to kill or pet random game critters always seems to be a plus, haha.

But interactive environments and torches, oh my.  Sounds awesome.
