Those were dark days! Although they lead to what may be my favourite BioWare forum memory of all: the night of the Fishquisition, when the romance mega-thread lost its collective mind and we all started posting pictures of fish that reminded us of Dragon Age characters. (Look, it made sense at the time. Sort of.)

Things like this are exactly why I skulk around this forum XD

I remember those brutal final days of revealing the remaining LIs. Is it Varric, Vivienne, Blackwall, or Solas? Who's bisexual? WHO'S DRIVING THIS THING?!

 

Ugh, those were terrible times.

 

I really, really hope that for DA4, they either reveal all the romances (and which gender protagonist can romance them) at the same time, or they don't reveal them at all.  The way they left everyone hanging regarding those 4 was awful.

Yeah, I definitely hope this time they reveal them all in one fell swoop, or at least in short order. That way no one gets their heart set on a LI they only find out is unavailable a week before the game.

For DA2, they were all revealed the Valentine's Day before the release of the game, IIRC. We found out the main four were bisexual on March 5th, 2011! I know because I made an excited journal post about it at the time, as we all ran around the forums yelling 'AUFGESTOCKT!!!' at each other . (It was announced in a German magazine interview, and for a few hours before the devs confirmed in English there was much debate about the exact meaning of that adjective.)

 

Fingers crossed they'll do something similar for DA4 - I know that the whims of the marketing department are mysterious and often cruel, but it would be really nice if we could avoid the in-fighting and bitterness this time . It was especially mean of them to annonce love interests without telling us what gender and/or race restrictions they had - I know a lot of people who had their hearts set on romancing Cassandra with a female character.

It didn't take too long, apparently; the earliest article I can find that contains concepts was published in August 2012:

Since DA2 was released in March 2011, we can conclude it took less than 18 months for DA:I concept art to start showing up.
In comparison, if we add 18 months to DA:I's release date, which was in November 2014, that brings us to this year's May.

Well, you'd have to take into consideration DLC production as well. Trespasser launched fall 2015(?) so we'd probably won't any concret for a while. Plus, they also have the new IP which will probably release sooner (no later then 2020 for IP release; that sounds weird to say) then DA4
