...They really don't get that fans of their games come to these forums to discuss them with EACH OTHER?

Yeah. I'm not super happy about this. I'm not really interested in reading blogs, I want to be able to discuss news and have fun with other fans. It's the interaction that I enjoy about this place. I want to be able to talk about the characters in X pages long threads full of art and character-specific discussions, that don't get shut down and disappear into the void after Y months. I feel like cracking down with the banhammer and stricter mods could have cleaned this place up nicely, and I feel like it still fills a function that's not present on the other platforms.

I'm going to miss the Twitter thread, the character threads.and the speculation threads. It's been fun you guys.

The DA twitter thread had been something that was apart of my everyday life sense waiting on details for Awakening. I've had some great times here, and have loved it as the best place online that folks came together to put all the news info in one convenient place. I'll miss this place, and remember it fondly.

Hey gang...

Just wanted to quickly pop my head in here, completely flaunt the forum rules, and say thank you for all your PMs, support and ideas for keeping this great community alive.  :)  :)  :)

Unfortunately, this all dropped in my lap the first day of my vacation, so it's going to be 3 - 4 days before I can really get my head around this. I've spent a couple of hours just trying to catch up. I (to the surprise of no one...) have a lot of feelings on this and will definitely chime in the main thread when I get back home.

Enjoy your vacation. Don't think about it, relax, take time off, you've more than earned it!

When you're ready to come back, I'm more than willing to help out if you'd like to formulate a new plan to move forward if you'd like to keep being the shining beacon of amazingness you've been for the fandom.

So the BioWare forums are being shut down? Sad. In the way that something which is long overdue can still be sad.

.....

I sort of agree with David ...

Shutting down the forums right before PAX might be a good move. The announcement is made when forum traffic is down between Bioware releases, and Bioware avoids the inevitable forum toxicity when a new game is announced.

Bioware will no longer have to put up with toxic tripe like ...

For those of you wanting a blog, I can also offer hosting it. We have a lot of these tools because we had to build the community fan site for darksouls as thre was no official option XD

All hrungr would have to do is make an account and post, and I can set up a specific category so it is easily accessible and not disturbed by other content.

I would handle the software and server side of things

You can see how our current blog is set up here
http://fextralife.com/

If self hosting works better, happy to give advise and help, but keep in mid you'll spend a lot of time doing technical things, it was a pain for me at the start

This is a centralized location dedicated to discussing all things Bioware, in a format superior to Reddit, Facebook and Tumblr. We can't have the kind of discussions we've had here on social media sites. This is a place for fans. We have a community here. Please don't do this.

I mean, sure they will. But they will have to deal with it in other places, like Twitter and Reddit and other forums. The toxic people aren't going away, they're just moving. The internet is a toxic place. I wish it wasn't, but it is.

Yup, that's exactly right. This forum, just like all forums, is primarily a social place, not a means to interact with devs. It's a place where people who share interests can go and discuss what they love, learn things, and get to know each other. This will simply not happen to the extent it can here on any of the places they listed. This really gets under my skin.

Exactly. Reddit may be a forum, not like the other "options" listed, but even it will never come close to what we have here. The layout and style of Reddit just won't do. No easy subcategories, no archived, detailed, easy-to-access-months-later game guides and information, no years-long megathreads for characters, art, screenshots, etc. And in my opinion it's much less personal due to the comment layout, lack of avatars, and other factors that make it hard to get to know what specific people are like.

Bioware obviously doesn't understand that this is a place for us, though. The community. Not them, not the devs, us. Fans. And finally, saj;lakfjdsklgfjdsgklhsldkghldgdh

I was really looking forward to the Twitter thread activity once DA4 was announced. I love the ridiculous banter we can have here. So. Sad.

I kinda agree with Gaider here...  :(

Kinda sucks for me personally though, since I don't do any of those other social media options. Guess I'm gonna have to dig up my old pokemon trading reddit account, or figure out this "tumblr" thing, or whatever else is out there.

I'll miss this place. And the easy access to social mesia stuff I don't really take part in... But it was coming for a while. Not only had activity dropped these past few years, but the threads were extremely repetitive and often just not fun to take part in with the negativity.

And let's be honest... This had been one of the few forums where there was constant dev activity and the fans screwed it up. I an so tired of the cynicism and negativity on the net...

That's hardly toxic tripe. Its not a particularly reasoned argument, but its not particularly hurtful either.

It's not reasoned at all. It's sad, because I know Gaider could do better, but it's also a very Gaider thing to say. Firstly, it generalizes everyone here, I shouldn't have to explain why that's insulting, but perhaps more importantly, it's totally inaccurate. We get the occasional troll who makes posts like that (just like everywhere on the internet), but most of the discussion is genuine. In fact, I find this place much less toxic than practically everywhere else on the internet.

And "Bioware will no longer have to put up with toxic tripe" like that? What? Because surely no one on Twitter, Reddit, Tumblr, Facebook, Instagram, or Youtube ever makes stupid comments, right? It's idiotic. I really don't like that guy. And like you said, that example is hardly what you'd call toxic anyway.

:o  "Bioware will no longer have to put up with toxic tripe"...now that bsn has been shanked in the back?

You know, remember that ordeal with Jen Hepler. When she was mercilessly attacked? That started on yer precious Reddit.  Not here. It started with some one calling her the "cancer that is killing BW"..blah, blah, blah.  It started and flourished on your sweet reddit and perpetuated itself further on your precious Twitter. Not the bsn.

If you want to speak on it, then get it right and tell the whole story.
