It's also not impossible that we'll get more than 10 companions now that they have an entire year of additional time to make the game.

BioWare shutdown there bein 10+ companions a while back.I also doubt they will be adding new one, the writers have to go through the entire game dialogs to fit in the different races the Inquisitor can be. That's plenty of job already.

The thing is though, if there were any fewer companions than 10, a lot of the concept art and information and videos we've seen just wouldn't make sense.

There are five companions listed in a GI video (the screenshot is earlier in the thread), and that didn't include Varric and Cassandra - who we know are companions because they're in another video.

It also doesn't include the Iron Bull, who was in the trailer, nor Cullen, who we know has been written and recorded, and who probably appears in concept art.

That's at least nine. Cole was mentioned in the survey and we've heard nothing about him, but he's a fairly interesting character to just randomly cut.

Well, Shale was the first companion we ever heard about (and got an actual description of), and she still got cut somewhere along the way.

And that was official press material, not leaked marketing surveys or whatever that nonsense was.

Wonder if David Gaider is going to include Maevis in some way in the game now that he probably has the time to.

Mike and Gaider also said that the survey was not accurate...

And yet everything lines up with the survey so far. I wouldn't take Gaider or anyone else discounting something from the survey seriously. It's in their best interest to make us distrust the survey because it takes some of the wind out of their sails, having us know so much about the game already.

So dev saying there won't be 10+ companions and people speculating there will be more than 10 because we got two official companions not in the survey (Varric & Vivienne) means everything lines up. Sure.

Nothing revealed so far contradicts the survey. Varric and Vivienne being companions takes nothing away from the survey. It was a marketing survey to gather feedback for marketing purposes, not a comprehensive summary of what the game will contain.

Well, ME2 was character focused game and there were 12 squadmates and huge amount of exploration. I still think it was the best game in the series. Citadel DLC was a huge success. So why not focus your game on companions again? Win-win situation for everyone. I've recently played KOTOR2 with restoration patch and oh my..I've found myself speaking with Kreya for like 20 minutes, then another 30 with HK-47, and i would gladly spend even more. Just my 2 cents.

Agreed.

I spent a lot of time in game running around the Normandy in ME2 to chat with all the squad, and checked back after every mission in ME3 to see what they had to say about what went on. I constantly headed to Kirkwall's map to check in with everybody. I particularly liked when the companions would interact with each other outside of Hawke’s influence, when you'd walk into a cut scene and you'd get a snippet into their relationships with each other.

Characters are one of Bioware's strongest assets in their games; I'm hoping they live up to and even surpass what they've done before in that regard.

They should do more companion interaction similar to ME3, by having them move around talking to each other and hanging around at Hubs

No, thanks. All they ever did in DA2 was hang out with each other. It gets really old really fast to always have the party just ending by the time you show up.

In the DA series, almost all banter is between party members (there's scores more banter in either of the DA games than all three ME games combined), so the relationship between the various companions already gets plenty of exposure. (Though they supposedly have new goodies in DA3 to let the protagonist also take part in the banter.)

It wouldn't be like DA2, it would be like how ME3 did it

There was nothing in ME3 that would really be much of an improvement to what the DA series already does.

Companions already interact all the time. They don't need to be grouped in a "hub area" (so basically camp) to form relationships with each other.

Though if we do return to a camp system (as we're expected to have some sort of stronghold), it's certainly possible for it to be a bit more dynamic than the camp in Origins, I agree. But a lot of the word budget is already spent on the prodigious banter that exists for every single combination of companions and plays throughout the entire game, so I'm not sure what benefit there would be to spending still more for static banters in camp (especially since companions also interject in conversations far more frequently than they ever did in ME).

Just because characters appear in the concept art doesn't mean they'll be companions. Heck, just because they'll be in the game doesn't mean they'll be companions. They could be major NPC's (like Eamon and Teagan for DA:O) antagonists (like Orsino and Meredith for DA2), etc.

Just something to think about.

Party camp > Running around the town. Also you can't have enough of party banter and other interactions with the characters.
