When I talked to David Gaider briefly at GDC, he told me that it was Jennifer who had written my favorite character in DA2, Sebastian. It's sad to see her go, but it sounds like she's going off to do something like a personal pet project that she wants to do. I'll definitely be checking out that book when she's done with it.ElitePinecone wrote...
Oh, from a Polygon article:
"Jennifer Hepler left BioWare this week to begin work on a book about narrative design and do some freelance work. Her most recent job title was senior writer on Dragon Age: Inquisition. "

From the sound of it she'll be showing aspiring writers the ropes, so she's still in the game - more or less.
True. Silver lining and all that...
I quess I'll have to keep my eyes out for her book / any articles she might publish. Video game writing in general -- and narrative design in particular -- is a very facinating field.

P.s. folks - this is the Twitter thread. We all loved Jennifer and wish her the best, but we don't want this thread to get closed for being too off-topic. The thread specifically on her leaving was already closed because it wasn't DA:I relevant.
That's easy to fix:
David Gaider @davidgaider:
The Dragon Age writing team will miss Jennifer a lot. She's responsible for some of DA's finest moments, and there's a lot of her in DAI.
Lockdown averted!
Glad to see we'll be able to enjoy her work in DA:I despite her departure!

Hmmm, sounds interesting...
The words, where do they keep coming from? It never ends!
John was on the other floor. He wrote all the best parts of ME3 (with Patrick, Sylvia, and Cathleen knocking out most of the rest): chiefly, the whole Tuchanka arc (including Wrex, Eve, Padok, and most of Mordin), Garrus, and Javik.cindercatz wrote...
Who is John Dombrow? I don't know who all the team is, read back several pages and I can't find it.
He had the stuff.
Apparently I was more right than I knew.Maria Caliban wrote...
He has credits for ME 2 and SW:TOR. I suspect he's in Edmonton.
They said in the other thread that Chris was let go a while back as well (he most recently wrote EDI and Thane in ME3).
What the hell is going on here? It's getting close to the time to head up to Canada and barricade the doors with our bodies. Everyone hold hands!

Chris Hepler (Jennifer's husband, and a writer on the old ME team) apparently left (or was let go) a while back as well, according to another source.
I hope at least Cathleen is still there. Though I guess it wouldn't suprise me anymore if she weren't.

Interesting. In the new combat feature, warriors can roll and throw harpoons. Good to know. And also a new companion was shown in the video, and looks to be an elven archer.

Seems that way, but originally I overlooked the Grey Warden beardy guy thingy, who was also in the video at the end. So 5 confirmed companions so far. Varric, Cass, Vivienne, Grey Warden beardy guy thingy and Elven archer girl thingy(who may be Sera from the survey).

So, if Jennifer Hepler is leaving, and she "Wrote 3 large (15,000-word +) critical path plots and one major follower and romance character" (for Inquisition), who will be taking over writing for her for Inquisition? Or is all of her writing complete?

Oh cool, interesting tidbits of info.
Writing has generally been one of the earliest parts of the game to be finished, especially things like the main plots. I imagine that if she's written three critpath plots and a character, they won't change too much between now and next year. If the original plan was to launch DAI at the end of this year, the writing would've had to have been fairly advanced until that decision was made.
(I mean, it seems like characters were recording *dialogue* over a year ago, so chunks of their writing would've been done more than a year ago, too.)
Edit: and something else, DAO's total word-count was "only" 900,000 words all up, so three-crit path plots totalling 75,000 words+ is a fairly hefty chunk of writing.

That makes sense, I was just wondering if there might be changes or additional writing due to new races for the Inquisitor and also mounts.
