I hope we get a trailer very soon, but I would be willing to bet that development is behind schedule. They kept saying "no details until 2013" but kept revealing details in 2012. They even said they wouldn't announce the game until they had something to show us but then went ahead and revealed the game. And they pushed back their sprint review day. Speculation on my part, they're way behind schedule and don't have a trailer ready to show us.
Either way, there's no chance a trailer would be 12 GB. That's the size of like 2 full-length HD movies.

It's more "Some of the stuff being worked on is exciting and it's fun to drop hints."

I particularly enjoyed seeing people dissect the blurred picture of the triangle that Mark posted.  Was fun to see people go over it with a fine tooth comb.

Never saw that before. I love that stained glass look. Reminds me of the mosaic cutscenes in Baldur's Gate 2.

We actually put some of them up on our lunch room/kitchen windows.

Also, Mr. Bitey is amazing.  Blows me away every time!

Hard to say. There's still more stuff going into the game. We may introduce a Mr. Chewy and Mr. Chompy too.

I can't imagine anyone confusing a Mr. Bitey for a Mr. Pinchy!

If Mr Bitey is some kind of terrifying hostile monster/creature it's going to be really hard to take it seriously if we know it had such an adorable widdle name at one point in development.

I hope they name him/her Mr Bitey in the game. And that s/he's the main antagonist. And that once you finally see this dreaded creature for yourself during the end battle, it turns out to be a crazed orlesian poodle.

Seriously, you can't really please the "I want an epic enemy!"-crowd. But I doubt you can go wrong with a poodle. It's the safest bet, when you think about it.

Epler, yes.

He's the Cut Scene guy.  Obviously none of us can read into his mind, but  when I see that comment of his, the first thing that pops into my head is:  Wonderful, DA3 will be a  hollywood blockbuster-level  cutscene masterpiece.

Which is fine, but for me, I judge a game by how fun it is to play... not watch.

My job title is cinematic designer, true, but my actual duties are a lot more widely varied than just 'make cutscenes'.

In truth, I'm probably the least cinematic-focused of the cinematic design team. A lot of what I've done so far has been way, way outside my traditional wheelhouse - and that's because I am passionate about game design as a whole, not just my field of expertise. Been playing games since I was a wee lad, and I still have my original receipt from a local computer store that's now out of business where I reserved Baldur's Gate at the age of 12 because I was already a giant RPG nerd, brought up on my friend's Gold Box collection.

I haven't made a single cutscene yet. So, read into my excitement what you will, but it has very, very little to do with cinematics. That's not to say I'm not excited about where we're going with those, too, but thus far it's all about the game as a whole.

EDIT: I mean, if you watch my Twitter feed, when I nerd out about games it's almost never 'this game had great cinematics!' It's usually 'oh man the way Dark Souls handled cohesive level design is brilliant'. It's understandable to think that my main focus is cinematics but I spend more time geeking out about design mechanics than I do about shot composition, at least when I play games.

Still am a little miffed that Twitter is more respected as an online medium for conveying game data (or even spreading dev teasers and rumors), but it is pretty amazing to hear people gush about how excited they are. Spleen saying it was the game he's always wanted to make is...  intriguing.

I can only speak for myself but I would think most of the other dev's would agree, it's just easier.

Especially for little one of things that we might  be seeing at that exact moment that we want to get out.  To do that in the forums would require loading a web browser on my phone, logging in, creating a thread.... ie. to much work.

Twitter I click the app, type, post.

It also why I re-sticked this thread so that no one is left out, big thanks to the community helping filter all our quips and bringing them here

Originally there was supposed to be one at the end of this month, but then Cameron Lee said there would be one in a few weeks. I guess at some point in February then.

I was on holiday last week, but I would expect one this week IIRC.

...what does a sprint review signify? Are announcements made?

Sprint Review is mostly a day where the devs troll the fan base by leaving exceptionally vague comments about what they see about what people were working on.

It's fun! :)

I think they get in their tweets when one group is leaving and the other is setting up. I don't usually pay much attention, but all those producer types are usually jabbering on about something in the back of the room.

Note that the lower a stock price is, the more resistant it becomes to change (going from 100 to 95 is a 5% drop, whereas going from 10 to 5 is a 50% drop).

I needed a new car so I had to cash in some stock and unsurprisingly the price goes up 50 cents a few days later! /rabble /rabble

lmao! yup. that's how it always seems to work.

edit: hmmm, I wonder how many gamers are also investors? I don't know alot of gamers irl, but the ones I do, like to invest and in particular like keeping their eye on gaming pubs stock.

it's funny cuz there's still this idea that a gamer is someone--a young man--living in their parent's basement, swilling back mountain dew and screaming for , "Moar Boobies!"

Idk how true that ever was, and they are a part of it all, but the demographics of "a Gamer" has changed radically over the past, what? 10-15 years?

In other words, I suspect, that some of the most interested investors of gaming pub stock will also be gamers.  Or, at least the family and friends of a gamer.

This is going way beyond the scope of this thread, but my only real investments at this time are the RRSP mutual funds for the most part.  EA offers an incentive on stock purchases that is pretty nice so I do take part in that.  Helped me buy a condo, braces, and a new car hahaha.

But yeah, "gamers" are typically growing up.  Even if you factor in the more "hardcore" games (i.e. not facebook casual type of stuff), the average age is shooting up.  I am almost 32, and have basically been playing games for almost 3 decades now.  Eventually there will be a president of the US that is an avid gamer haha.  And as we grow up, all that "responsibility" stuff comes into play!

I hadn't heard the rumor that the 720 will only have 8 gigs of RAM. Sheesh. I just built a new gaming PC with 64 to make sure I won't have to upgrade RAM for 2 or 3 years. The 720 will be old technology before it hits store shelves, and I'm sure the PS4 won't impress in this regard either since they know they have to make their console comparable for cross-platform development.

64 GB is probably a bit on the overkill side.

In 2000-2001 I was the first among my friends to pass the 1 GB threshold, and in 2010 when I got my current box I went with 8 GB (I since had a machine with 2 GB and 4 GB in between).

I cheaped a bit on the processor (one of the AMD quadcores... 939 or something - I don't recall off hand), went with the Radeon 5850 vid card, with 2 4GB sticks of memory and I still don't have much issue playing games on my native resolution (1920x1200) with graphics set on high.  Now this isn't Ultra settings by any means, but given it took me 10 years to feel a 2^3 improvement in memory was worth it for gaming, I'd be surprised if we expected it to shoot up at a faster rate over the next two to three years.  Perhaps you multitask a lot more than I do (I typically just have a game and Firefox open as my big apps at home), but if you just have a gaming rig like me, you'll probably do fine with much less for the next 2-3 years.

Heck, the machine I compile/debug on at work still only has 12 GB of memory, and it lets me run around in debug builds that are much, much, much slower than any build we'd use for release.

PC players who are jumping up and down with glee about the new consoles
should temper their expectations. Not only will game makers lose nearly a
decade's worth of tricks in optimizing the current console and
utilization, but they'll also need to come up with a way to handle an
8-core setup, which no console developer has had to do (and which even
PC game makers haven't found too many uses for yet). All for tech which
will be outpaced by a good stretch even before its released.

Much of the multicore cost has already been absorbed.  Once you learn how to properly set up dual/quad core processes, going to 8 is less of an issue as much of what you had to learn is transferrable.

I was actually not thinking of the process cost, but just the lack of applications for it. To my understanding, having an 8-core system would be (like a high amount of RAM) more for multi-tasking situations. While games have a lot of graphics functions going on at once, I didn't think they had a large number of other actual data processing tasks to handle all at once. Making the 8-core system more of something that doesn't fit a demand of the industry right now.

But I am speaking WAY out of my element here right now. And it could be a design that Sony and MS think game development is heading towards, so it will solve a future potential ceiling limit? Again, talking way outside my area of expertise.

Ah fair enough.  One difference between an 8 dedicated machine and an 8 core standard PC is legacy support.  There's much less value in investing in that level of multicore support if you still need to make sure it runs properly on a dual core processor.

But you are right, there are diminishing returns on cores too, if you aren't really using them.

As a PC Gamer, I actually don't mind. I do feel I have gotten more years out of my PC machines than I did in the previous console generation.

Though at this point this discussion should probably slide to the off topic forum... >.>
