It does look similar to real combat but i like it like this.

Looks more fun than either DA game so far. Barrel rolls included.

Skeptical about what? That it exists? Multiple game journalists have written about watching. Bioware have categorically said its in the game and that it works by decoupling from the viewpoint character. Which is what people requested during the DA2 development. If the game comes out and its not in the game well BW have a huge problem but I don't think we have reason to doubt it at this stage, especially since they seem to be pretty categorical about it..

This picture, by itself, would get me to buy the game.

According to people that were there they showed off the tactical cam behind closed doors. They could be mistaken or bull****ting though.

Link.

Hmmmm. I may be nitpicking, but it says they "announced" that the game could be zoomed out.ndoes that mean they showed it?

The fact that they did state they can give commands is good. An actual confirmation to someone seeing that is good.

Still, you could pause DA2 and give commands, yet I didn't think it was very tactical. That's why I'm really wanting to see some video myself.

From linked dude on reddit:

and from then on they did all the combat by pausing, giving commands/using abilities, and then unpausing.

I take this as that they did it on the screen.

Edit: Made it a bit easier to read.

Multiple journalists got inside looks at ME3 and came to the conalrison that it could have "15 different endings" even though they didnt see this, let alone were directly told these numbers.

I trust journalists to know what they are talking about just as much as I trust Bioware. Which is to say a little, but not something I'm going to just assume to be true the way I am PERCEIVING they are saying things. Real video I can see and then I'll be happy to discuss. Possibly even get excited. Until then, the old saying of "too good to be true" is definitely in play in my mind.

Thanks. Although... again... I'd like to see video of it. A screenshot can be deceptive. Not intentionally or anything... but I can imagine things are going on that aren't, and I can assume things aren't going that are when looking at a static, in-the-moment picture.

It sounds like you would be skeptical even if they do release video of it.

Whether or not they have a tactical camera, IMO, means a lot less than whether there is point and click combat on the PC. Like Jimmy, all the gameplay I've seen so far shows what amounts to an action RPG - dodges, rolls, etc. It looks like Guild Wars 2, not DA:O.

Point-and-click being absent would IMO more be unwieldy than unusable. The control scheme is about convenience more than operation.

Twitch or not is the game we're playing now, I think, and we still can't really tell. It sounds like the command queue really is reserved for this tactical view (so if you want to issue commands to your whole party, you need to switch—the "action" view only lets you control a single character), but again, they're not being specific enough (and it still says nothing about the type of gameplay being represented).

The 2 aren't mutually exclusive. I don't see how rolls and dodges aren't tactical or how they couldn't be implemented in a click-based combat style.

Which isn't a bad thing for me, because I love Guild Wars 2's combat system.

I would be LESS skeptical, I'll say that.

I find I have very different tastes and impressions from things than most people. Seeing our character barrel roll out of the way of that dragon fire leaves me with a feeling of dread, not excitement. Seeing a Mage summon a spellbook brings up questions for me, not squeals of pleasure.

We're only going to know what it's like when we play it. The next best thing is watching someone else play it, not listen to what the devs are aiming for or what people interpret seeing someone else play means. I'm trying to figure out what half of these promises mean and it all comes down to gameplay, not conceptual statement a.

I didn't say that they are exclusive. What I said was that the game so far doesn't look like point and click combat. It would be possible to create an ARPG with point and click controls - but as TW1 shows, the result is just a poor control scheme for an ARPG.

Because you can have a ninja-fast rogue who might not dodge out of the way because the player isn't good enough, or a hulky, slow, heavy warrior who is able to twitch out of the way because the player has mastered the controls. That is not tactical - that is twitch.

If I can see a dragon coming from far off, give a command to all my companions to dodge when he swoops in close and then have them each succeed or fail hat based on their stats, equipment and a little luck (not me knowing precisely when to button mash), then that is tactical.

Does that look like the console version of DA2 at all? Or DA:O? To me it looks like ME... but I've never played console DA.
