I can see this being more useful in giving commands rather than interaction with, say, companions. Have to see more, but that should hopefully give the intent of the Inquisitor (very much like Crusty's Intent Wherl, hilariously enough) rather than he direct consequence of the choice, as was sometimes the case in DA2.llandwynwyn wrote...

It says what the direct result of your choice is, like if you tell the guy to "Stay with the wounded" the hover is "Soldiers tend their wounded, they are [something] to [something] the attack."
Hmm... that's interesting. It's dicey, because it sounds like it can spoil what happens next.
It is specifically for decisions (according to the video), so you won't choose anything you don't know. The hover zoom thing says what the order means in detail.
Not really spoiling.
It isn't that a choice, though? So if you don't want to be spoiled, you can turn it off?

I'm assuming the camera will be locked (or have more limited 2D movement) in tactical view, making mouse control possible (whether they bother with it or not is a different thing). In Exile wrote...
What do you mean, confined to the tactical view? I know you're speculating, I'm just not sure I follow what you mean.
If it's moving around the camera in the exploration or action view (or whatever they want to call it), it's not really going to be usable for control.
Based on that video, camera control seems far more critical than it ever was in Eclipse (which had no z-axis and really never used vertical space all that much), so I just don't see it not being implemented in the standard way (moving the mouse moves the camera).

Ah, I see what you mean now, thanks.
I recall that I read one preview article that suggested that they'd have a free roam camera, however. At least for tactical. I'm searching now.

The interface looks a little different but it's still familiar from playing the PS3 version. Bringing up the radial menu in DA:O and DA2 pauses the game and you can select potions or skills/spells, and command the party individually from there, among other things. The six-button hotkey menu in the corner and the party display seems to only pop up during battles.
Thanks! Gives me hope the PC version will stay the same. Bioware's been making all[/b] the right moves so far, it'd be a shame if they messed this last part up for me.
I didn't see them zoom out there I don't think? If so, then it didn't look demonstrably different than the console version of DA2 zooming out. But the video was a tad blurry, so maybe I missed it.
I still saw a lot of dodging and barrel rolls through direct commands, not through orders, tactics or perhaps even an activated ability. I really wish they'd stop showing videos about how OMGAWASUM it is to go in and hack n' slash the game. It looks nicer than DA2, but it is still looking more Devil May Cry than DA:O. It is like saying God of War is tactical because you can attack certain areas of enemies, use different weapons and abilities and needing to use different tactics against different enemies.
That, to me, is not a tactical, party-based RPG. It is a single player action game. Since we can switch companions, I'd like to see some examples where we are rotating between different companions, using different skills, using unit placement, using abilities in tandem to execute certain effects and, basically, do more than hack an enemy to death while pausing once in the fight to show that you can.

I think that's covered by my "2D movement" aside—for instance, you could scroll the camera around (on PC, I imagine that would mean moving the cursor off the edge of the screen in the direction you want to scroll). But the camera doesn't need to be tied to the mouse in that sort of setup, so you can revert to more typical mouse control. In Exile wrote...

But I'm uncertain, as tying the mouse to the camera means that mouse control wouldn't be possible at all in exploration view (since you have no cursor), except if the camera locks while paused (at which point, you can bring up the cursor for manipulating interface elements and such). It would suck if the hotbar is only usable while paused, for example, which leaves me a bit conflicted (would they really do that?).
It will be interesting to see, though my expectation remains that the active camera is too necessary to allow mouse control as we're used to. (It's just now I think it may possibly be incorporated into the tactical view, which I wasn't previously anticipating.)
I was intrigued by the comment about making camp or returning to the stronghold (it sounded like a party rest mechanic to me)—though I'm not sure I like the continuation of the "magic camp" where all things bad are made good just by showing up (hopefully there will be some reason other than travel time for not constantly returning to the stronghold after every battle). I also liked that walk and run looked to be separate (though I'm not sure if I have the patience anymore to actually walk when given the option to run), but the apparent sneaking really didn't excite me (but I generally don't enjoy stealth all that much).

Mage-templar war is a past, now we have an invasion of demons to stop. Mage or templar, doesn't matter, everyone is needed to save Thedas from them, time for their private wars will come later.
Mage-templar war is a past?
LOL. They are still in a state of war. And it is no private war. There are mages and templars spread over the whole Thedas and they do fight each other.

Someone: Will ist be posible on PC to play the whole combat in the tactical view, not just in the pause? Like it was in Origins.
Mike: Yup!
Also, I thought the transition between camera styles (iso / over shoulder) during combat was smooth and not jarring as it can sometimes be.

The camera zooming in for that lock-on angle (a red reticule appears on the characters, like during the harpoon attack) looked pretty annoying though I thought. I'm guessing that's a console thing?DAYtheELF wrote...
