so it looks like each class will have a "mobility" ability.

warriors have roll.
rogues have leap.
and mages have teleport.

kind of wish the teleport wasn't green-colored, though......lol

Yeah, I'm really confused by Gaider's insistence that we refrain from using the term Kossith. It's like telling us not to call human Andrastians humans because they're Andrastians.

I believe it's because "kossith" is an archaic term. While it may not be totally unknown in Thedas, it seems that practically nobody, including the qunari themselves, refers to their race as kossith--they are the qunari. And yes, elves, dwarves, and humans can convert TO their belief system, thereby becoming qunari as well. Are they the same race, technically? No. Is it weird? Maybe. But it is how the world works.

Edit: Ooops, sorry about the double post.

I believe you're right. To the people of Thedas, the word "qunari" has become synonymous with the race of large, horned people.  The word "kossith" was abandoned by the qunari and the rest of the world centuries ago.

So even though "qunari" is technically just a religious designation, in practice it refers to both: the religion and the race.

I know, and that's what makes it confusing. Try having a simple discussion about Qunari and people inevitably get confused on whether you mean the religion or race or both. Try making a simple observation about the Qunari as a race and people correct you because they think you mean the religion. I'm getting tired of the confusion. I don't care if people in Thedas use Qunari for both the race and culture, I'd like a term for the race so it won't always get confused with the religion when people try to talk about them outside Thedas.

It really isn't confusing at all. They have announced the playable races as human, elf, dwarf and qunari. Period.

Anything else is background information that, frankly, has not been revealed for any of the races. We don't know if we will be apostate mages or circle mages, dalish or city elves, what country our human is or how our dwarf came the surface. Whether the Qunari we play is part of the Qun, Valshoth, or even a fog warrior is not being discussed yet. I don't expect that kind of information to be revealed for a while.

However, speculation is all part of the game here so guess away.

so what's the deal with the Inquisitor's "flame sword?"

the middle top ability icon looks kind of like a flaming sword.

does that mean the flame sword is a warrior ability?

it was kind of hard to hear the devs speak in the demo.

The flame sword, I guess, is a crafted sword with a fire rune.

I assumed it was a flaming weapons spell from Vivenne, just like in Origins mages could enchant melee weapons of the party with fire, ice, or telekenisis. They said enchanted weapons were back.

Mike talks about crafting and enchanting when people start cheering for it so I assume it's a property of the sword or its enchantment.

I really don't think that it needs any more clarity. They have said time and time again that it is the qunari (race). I get it, you get confused about the two, but saying it in every post that has to do with qunari is not going anywhere. xD

Yeah, Mike mentioned you can make unique weapons and give them names.

I forget exactly what it was called, but something like "Sword of the First Inquisitor"

But Qunari isn't a race. It makes no sense to use the term Qunari on these forums when we mean Kossith. I don't care about in-game terminology outside of the game. I'm going to call Kossith Kossith on these forums.

The way I see it is, Qunari are the Dragon Age counterparts of protheans in Mass Effect. The protheans were a race (a member of that race being Javik), but there was also the Prothean civilization, which included multiple subservient alien races. Qunari are similar in that they use "Qunari" as the identifier of their race, but it's also what other races use to associate themselves with the regimen of the Qunari culture.

Except the writers have said that qunari IS a race and kossith is not. Kossith refers to an ancient way of life that the qunari conformed to. So calling them Kossith doesn't make any sense.
It makes no sense to me that people ignore the creators.
It's really not that difficult to understand, and I don't get why people freak out so much about it.

Either way, it's not that confusing. Qunari think of themselves only in terms of religion except the "true gray ones". They don't care about race.

@David Gaider question, are the keeps region locked as to what purpose they serve, or does the play decide. ie. if I stumble on a region that is rich in resources like elf root and lyrium, cand I make that an alchemy base or merchant base or is it locked to being an alchemy base? Follow up question, Do you have the option to "repurpose" or  "reassign" keeps? say for example my keep has delepted the natural alchemical resources, can I then turn it into a military strong hold?

But when you and I are debating the issue in forums, a word that instantly differentiates between the race and the religion is incredibly useful.

I hope these help clear somethings up, i'll put some terms down at the bottom to reference certain things.

Confession: I hate how the kossith are referred to as Qunari as a people. They are only Qunari if the follow the Qun, and any race can be Qunari.

To anyone in Thedas who doesn’t know any better, they’re all Qunari. The culture and the religion are one and the same thing.

"But what about the followers of the Qun who aren’t big, horned people?"

Properly, they’re viddathari. But since nobody would know what that means, you can call them “elven Qunari”, “human Qunari” or what have you. They are, after all, exceptions to the rule.

"But what about big, horned people who aren’t followers of the Qun?"

Properly, they’re Tal’Vashoth. Again, since few would know what that means, they’d just be called Qunari (to their annoyance, but they’re likely used to it).

"But that’s confusing!"

No, it’s really not. It’s about as confusing as “Jewish”, and insisting on “kossith” because it’s mentioned in a few codex entries makes about as much sense as insisting someone of Jewish descent be referred to as either Ashke**** or Sephardim— as if that would be clearer for most people.

Of course, when I bring this up I get a round of “ohhh, Gaider’s upset again.” I’m not upset in the slightest. Kossith is simply an antiquated term that would be used by neither the Qunari nor the Tal’Vashoth and has never even been heard of by anyone else in Thedas, so it’s not apt to be used in-game anytime soon. Thus people insisting on its usage as “proper” when most people who’ve even played the game have never heard of it just makes me scratch my head. It’s bizarre, particularly on the odd occasion when someone schools another fan about it— like they’re just not educated enough to know they should be confused.

We’ll call them Qunari. If we feel the need to distinguish from the norm, either in terms of race or religion, we’ll do so… and the only people who’ll be confused are those who enjoy overthinking it.

http://dgaider.tumbl...-i-hate-how-the

"Kossith" is an antiquated term, not a technical one. It was used to describe the culture that predated the Qun. It may not have even been the name of a race at all. It's the equivalent of calling white people, "Occidental." A few members of the Qunari priesthood are going to recognize the word, but no one else in Thedas would know what the heck this term means.

Modern Qunari do not have a term for their race for the same reason that nobody in Thedas has a name for their planet. As far as they are concerned, the world consists of people and things-that-aren't-people. All other distinctions are unimportant.

Other Thedosians do not draw distinctions between Those Tall Guys Who Sometimes Have Horns Who Follow the Qun and The Other Tall Guys who Sometimes Have Horns Who Don't. They are all, "Qunari" to the humans, elves, and dwarves. -Mary Kirby.

http://social.biowar...3267/3#14904924

Kabethari are the newer converts to the Qun

Viddathari is the proper term for all non big grey giants that have completely submitted to the Qun if you don't want to use the term you can just call them the race name and then Qunari so Elven Qunari

Vashoth is those big grey giants who don't follow the Qun or break it but are non violent

Tal'Vashoth are the big grey giants who don't follow the Qun or break it that are violent and are most likely former soldiers also they seem to prefer the Tal'Vashoth name which means true grey ones.

Edit

I didn't see anyone mention this but Laidlaw confirmed that mana and stamina will regain and that more details will be coming out later.

Like naming weapons.
Saw the pax videos .
Wondered all the whooping and hollaring in the theater.
Yes whooping is bad. Wondered about collateral damage from the magic, lack of potions and immediate heath regen, the Crestwood decision which Varric didn't like.
I can see if your party members don't like your decisions they can gradually turn against you. Loved Viv.
Wonder how Gaider will explain her back story.
Loved the way she walked and those swaying hips. Needed Wynne to comment about them though. Sir Mix a Lot would be proud.rotfl.

*throws up hands* I don't even know why I bother.

Fine. I'll just call them "grey giants" for when I'm referring to the biological race, and "Qunari" for when I'm talking about followers of the Qun. I won't dare ask anyone else to be as clear anymore. When I see other people typing "Qunari," I'll just ask if they mean the race or culture or both before proceeding, since responding without checking before just led to a lot of confusion, because requesting an extra term to differentiate the two is obviously asking too much.
