Yeah its on for tomorrow, I usually do all the setup/prep for the meetings so Allan's "unless something happens" usually refers to the meeting not happening cause I blew up the demo PC or some other travesty that I have facilitated.

Hey man I didn't want to put you on the spot or anything! :D

Deleted a post as I'd rather this thread not derail into wild speculations over when the game may or may not be coming out and so forth.

Text to speech always leads to the most epic line delivery! #SprintReviewDay

I can't help but think of a robotic voice saying "All your base are belong to us."

I can't help but think of Oghren's banter with Velanna in Awakening that was kept as Text to Speech.

Best TTS ever was with Anders' actual VA meeting Ser Pounce-A-Lot.

This is quite possibly my favourite piece of DA insider info, ever.

I really liked the Marilyn Manson trailer for DA:O (it's how I found out/reason I bought the game way back when)

Bioware needs to learn that just like a movie trailer that doesn't tell you anything about the movie doesn't sell movie tickets, a marketing campaign that doesn't tell you anything about the actual game won't sell games.

I disagree with this, movie trailers should not be considered a valid comparison for video game trailers. The less description of a movie in a movie trailer the better. Where as game trailers I prefer the opposite. for example the 3 min Bioshock Infinite CGI trailer I was "meh looks cool" the 10 min Bioshock Infinite gameplay trailer I was like "TAKE MY MONEY" same with The Last of Us.

Well, I don't disagree with you on that. But I kind of consider a ten minute video discussing gameplay elements not exactly a "trailer" per se. In-depth videos discussing how a game works are awesome, but I wouldn't consider them marketing in the more traditional sense.

I should have edited my post after i saw it, the Last of Us gameplay trailer was 10min, the Bioshock gameplay was 3min, just like the cgi one.

I meant to compare the CGI vs. Gameplay of Bioshock.  While I don't usually like huge long 10min gameplay trailers... the one for The last of us... blew my mind until i just started throwing money at my montior in the hopes that the game would appear on my HD.

I have always just considered CGI trailers to be "buzz creators" and are used more for product exposure than for anything else.

They don't have a huge influence on me (at least I don't think they do), but by the same token I don't feel comfortable dismissing their effectiveness as a marketing tool outright. Simply because they don't appeal to me doesn't mean that they aren't effective.

I know they can be expensive, so perhaps I am being naive, but I get the impression that if they aren't seeing the results they want after releasing one, it'd be difficult to justify them.

Didn't Mark Darrah say in his post that it was something like 15 months back in August?

I personally have been working on the project since about September 2011, though the project itself had some level of preproduction and prototyping (as well as some other game ideas) for some time before that.

So Mr. Schumacher, I have a question. One, are you related in any way to Joel Schumacher? :P And, what does a Technical QA Analyst do exactly on a game? You play the game and look for bugs or the such?

Thanks for your time! :)

I am not related to the Butcher of Batman!  (although I did enjoy Falling Down).

As "Tech QA" I look more at systems behind the scenes, rather than assess the game content outright.  I have a technical background, and spend most of my time testing and regressing features within the Frostbite toolset (FrostEd) that we have added to the game.  My focus has typically been with "Digital Acting" which is everything from writing the conversations, to the tools for placing them in game and the CinDesign workflows to stage and animate the conversations.

As such I spend very little time in the "actual" game.  Most of my game time is spent in controlled test levels that help me test specific features.

"Frosting" would have been a more clever name for the toolset.

I think that's what we call the tool that makes .iso builds for more "proper" testing (less of an issue at this point of the dev cycle).  Or maybe that's "Frosty."  Hmmmm.

Also, very important tweet: Here \\o/

(EDIT: I have no shame.  Deal with it B))

Jos was one of the level designers for ME multiplayer.  I wonder if he is working on DA mp levels or single player levels?

I also worked on the ME3 SP. ^_^

Have you ever played Origins and DA2, Jos? Did you like them, or was it not really your thing?

Your messages on the Twitter have been giving me a very "I'm here because I have to be" vibe, like maybe you weren't entirely happy with the assignment. It makes me sad.

Did Dusty get assigned to the DA team too?

Yep, must've spent like 100+ hours on Origins, I love that game (and Awakening). Thought DA2 had an interesting approach to storytelling and I adored Merrill and Aveline.

Which message on twitter is giving you that vibe? I moved to DA3 by choice, it was actually my first choice. It just takes time to grow into a team you're unfamiliar with and a project/universe that you've not really explored beyond playing the games. I'm very excited and interested in DA, but with learning new technology, in a new team, with a lot of lore/info about the game I need to read up on and being in pain from a fractured rib maybe I don't come across as such. :)
Don't be sad, I'm having fun. ;)

Dusty is on another team. I couldn't say what he's working on though.

We get it, it's the co-workers right? You ask for a stapler and they respond by sending you cryptic clues on twitter. You wonder where the loo is and they refer to their "show, don't tell" policy (and allude to a date in march when they might show you)...

^_^

Yeah I still haven't found that stapler, despite all the twitter clues.

It seems it was just DA snobbery that was coloring my interpretation of some of your statements. You're a late addition to the team and have no past experience with it, so you got the eyes of suspicion, apparently.

But I'm more excited now that I know you're excited. It's all good when you have the passion. :-)

Heal quickly!

Thank you! I will. (I hope)

That's too bad. It looks like this final DLC is the last we'll get to see of him, at least for a long while. :(

At least his work on the next DLC is substantial and fantastic (to me, anyway).

The article was interesting, but could have been researched more, ie. its already been confirmed human only protagonist. So maybe don't have a section about wanting playable races. BUT there were some good points, and right in line with what I think most people (and these forums) want/have already stated they want, out of the game.

Sorry if this has already been posted up, I went back a few pages and didn't see it:

*Name removed*: " I get the impression that we might see some of DA3 at PAX or E3 or both. Or am I just being hopeful?"

MikeLaidlaw: "I'd like to get it out to look at sooner than later. Trying to make sure we're at some kind of parity first after engine change."

Hmmm... well, considering Sony is unveiling the PS4 next week (20th), I'm guessing the floodgates will open after that with respect to other nextgen games being unveiled or shown in some capacity before E3. I just have a hard time imagining any game that's slated for release this year amidst new consoles not being shown off at all before June. You know MS and Sony will inevitably have their own first party launch games looking great and you'll have a ton of other new IPs, you still have a behemoth like GTA V coming out later this year and just the attention the new consoles themselves will get. If BioWare is actually releasing DA3 this year and not 2014, then I'd expect to see something, be it an in game trailer or gameplay, relatively soon. End of the year is going to be damn crowded and if I were trying to market a game, I don't think I'd want to wait until E3 to unveil or announce it, as it seems like an easy way for it to get lost.

I wonder what Laidlaw means when he refers to "parity... after engine change"? Does he mean feature parity in terms of having systems in place that were present in DA:O or DA2? Does he mean parity in terms of how the game works on the various platforms its going to come out on?

I think the pairity he is talking about is features/gameplay/visuals.  We had to rebuild everything from scratch (tools/assets) when we switched to Frostbite.  It's up to Mike/Mark to decide when they think we've hit that point.

You'll see something from the game once we are ready.

Ah man Jos, you are making me all teary eyed.

Though I think Jos is really referencing all the stuff that he put into the DLC, but passed to me for bug fixing.  Jos moved projects a tad before we locked down the DLC, so I became virtual-Jos for a week or two.  And yes, that stuff is pretty fantastic IMHO.

Although I greatly appreciate that you picked up my stuff when I went on vacation, I meant the work that you've been doing behind the scenes. Most of it is stuff nobody will ever see or know about, but it is still great work. ;)

That's interesting, they making changes to the dialogue cheese wheel?

I actually attended that review myself, and I can assure you that there was some excellent usage of cheese wheels that I was not anticipating!
