Is this the first time Bioware has used Agile?

I don't remember hearing about it during ME3's development, or DA2 - although admittedly I didn't follow DA2 that closely.

Just interested in its benefits compared to other methods, or why it seems to be something a lot of teams are raving about all of a sudden.

Agile has been used on each of the projects from what I know.

The counterpoint to agile is more predictive development, which attempts to plan everything out from the get go.  In reality we use a hybrid, because we do have larger scale goals of the project, but the thing about agile is shorter development "sprints" so that you can achieve deliverables to the customer so that the customer can provide feedback.  From there, iteration can occur to make sure the feature is as expected and delivers the appropriate end result.

I'm confused as to how, while sitting in a room watching great
presentations, tweeting a sentence about them is a "waste of time".

Obviously there is more productive stuff you can do while one team leaves the theater and another comes in =]

There's nothing to analyze. Its literally nonsense. Unless the DA3 team is using some elaborate code and thinks we're all like the autistic kid from Mercury Rising I don't see the point of it. It seems like a waste of you guy's time and it's definitely a waste of ours to try and glean anything from it. We got more info out of a single tweet from a voice actor than the hundreds of tweets from actual developers.

I'm surprised that no one has realised that the world revolves around BrotherWrath. If he doesn't like something, it shouldn't be done.

Of course I'm joking. My point is that just because you don't like the tweets doesn't mean that others don't as well. Just because you find them pointless doesn't mean others do as well. You don't have to read them, and if you do read them, and don't like what you've read, than you can keep it to yourself. There is a fine line between constructive criticism and just plain criticism. You have the right to your opinion but I don't think this was the way in which you had to express it.

The only difference between constructive criticism and criticism is how it's perceived. If someone wants to take me saying that those pointless tweets inform us of literally nothing as anything less than constructive, whoopdie do. If someone thinks looking for deep meaning in 140 characters or less of intentionally uninformative nonsense is worth their time, well their perspective is bound to be pretty skewed.

We use agile, but it's a bit modified.

Allan, you know there isn't!  :wizard:

Ha. You would have done poorly in the three year span between DAO's announce and its reveal.

But thats besides the point.

It's fun for us, and for the people that do like to follow along.

It's definitely fun for some of us, as well. I know it makes me smile, and I look forward to the day-full of tiny glimpses you allow us. The tweets sent out of sprint review day are excellent (and often hilarious); there are just more of them on that one given day. Thank you for tweeting!

Yeah, the tweets are fun and I enjoy them. I don't enjoy them because they contain any deep meaning or content, because they don't. They're a bit of service to the fans who are following the game this early on, knowing that nothing of too much substance CAN be said right now. The tweets are NOT for the fans who can't be satisfied by anything less than full disclosure. More than anything the tweets are just a way for some co-workers to have a good time, I imagine.

Getting upset that these tweets are mostly empty of content is like getting upset that Mystery Science Theater 3000 only shows terrible movies. That's the point. Somebody needs his wubby.

People are aware they're being teased and continue to come back for more, so they must not mind it very much at all. If they derive enjoyment out of it, who are you to say that it's pointless? Pointless for you, I guess, since it just frustrates you - to which I'd suggest to stop doing something that frustrates you, unless I guess you enjoy being frustrated. Which doesn't make you better than the folks who enjoy being teased, because I think it's silly engaging in an activity to which you plainly dislike. It's not like you're changing anyone's minds, you're just putting a damper on their parade and riling folks up. Which I'd wager is probably your entire purpose here, because I don't see any other logical reason unless you're some sort of masochist.

Huh. I liked the mental image of devs sprinting through streets while holding laptops showing powerpoint presentations in suits in ties more tbh. :P

HA, I'd bet $50 that the only time you'd see a suit and tie in a Bioware studio is when an EA exec pays a visit. If Bioware is anything like other developers what you would find in abundance is; bluejeans, classic rock/metal memorabilia t-shirts, and long hair(mens, not womens).
