THX!

This is interesting:

"Fan feedback would only effect future releases, whether that’s downloadable content or future Dragon Age games".

Well this far into development the major concepts for the game are set in stone so of course it's too late to take more fan feedback into account. They've already taken fan feedback for DA:I into account -- any additional feedback can only be applied to DLC, expansions, and future games.

That is awesome. They should make that an easter egg scene for at the end of the credits or something.

Huh.

Didn't Gaider say close to a year ago that all party members were locked in and that things like if they were romanceable or not was already written in stone (the reason the thread he responded to had been started)?

I realize many things changed with the new release date being in 2014, but if the Lead Writer is just now working on the second party member, that seems a little wonky to me.

But what do I know?

"Until it ships nothing is final."

Even that's not true any more. Mass Effect 3 had it's ending changed post-release.

I am curious to see what the results of the survey will be. :)

I doubt they would release them (they haven't released the results of previous surveys). And it likely won't affect much of the gameplay this late in development (they are now around nine or ten months before going Gold, where the game is out of their hands). Based on comments by others, this will likely affect what kind of commercials we'll see for the game more than anything else.

Just wanted to chime in on this - the survey going live somehow flew over my head. This survey comes from the gameplay group rather than marketing. You're absolutely right - many things are fixed by this point in development, but there's still lots to do. As developers, we have mental models of how people play the game; if I only ever thought about making a game for the way *I* like to play, it would compromise a lot of other people's experiences. A survey like this helps refine our understanding of how people are going to use the interfaces and tools and bits and pieces that make up a game as big and involved as Inquisition. We can learn things about players that sometimes run counter to our assumptions, and though it's hard to see specific details in the final product, this information shapes work we do on the game and how we put things together in the end.

It's very unlikely we'd publicize the results of the survey - there's a lot of context and interpretation that needs to be applied to understand the raw numbers, especially in an opt-in online survey like this ("selection bias"? what's that?).

This is something new - as far as I know the DA team has never done a survey like this before. I'm very interested to see what people have to say, and how many responses we get...

the link to the survey is still Dragon Age: Inquisition - Community Gameplay Styles and Preferences

Could you say what "Target Locking" is?  I think it's a term which hasn't really reached the players.

You target a baddie and you do not stray away from it. You are "locked" onto your target.

If it is that, on PC at least I don't think it's possible to not use it, is it?  I mean, as far as I can see that's how you attack things

Target locking is a console feature: because of how directional autotargeting works to interpret the stick deflection and movement direction, if you don't want your target changing, you need to tell the game explicitly. In DAO and DA2 it was on left stick click. This is why we ask questions like this on the survey - I'm guessing you're not the only person who didn't know what it was or how it worked, which means we need to do a better job with the controls (or at least teaching them!).

No, they just don't play the game on console.

None of us who only play on PC really know what you were talking about. I answered that question as if you were asking about right-clicking on a target before using talents and spells, even though I suspected it was likely a console thing—because there was no way for me to really be sure what was truly being asked, not having any firsthand experience with the console versions.

Maybe there is a legitimate issue with presenting the control scheme to console players (I imagine you can filter out all the responses that only have PC/Mac checked for platforms), but I suspect a lot of the confusion I've seen here (almost all of it about this one question) is because the question doesn't indicate that it's referring to console functionality (unlike the preceding question).

I have officially answered the survey wrong. I've also beaten DAO 5 times and DA2 4 times (on 360) and have never found that feature. I thought you simply meant to aim at enemies using the "reticule" in the radial menu.

I'm not going to say the majority did the same mistake, but I still felt giving feedback may be worth it. Even if I may not represent the majority, me screwing up is probably proof enough that others have as well.

This was certainly true for me.  I guessed it was a console feature, and I skipped that question.

Wow. As a console player, I had no idea this was even a feature.

I've always had the impression that Bioware games haven't been the best about documenting, explaining and teaching/giving tutorials, either in the game itself or with the accompanying documentation. I'm very intrigued that you all are looking at possibly improving that for DA:I.
