When they said we won't be getting any new info bout the game this year, they were dead serious...

To be honest I'm a little surprised that there wasn't a teaser at the VGAs, even after all the warnings that we'd be waiting a while.

I'm speculating, but it's possible that concrete information about the game (or any sort of assets like screenshots or gameplay footage) is being held back because of the announcement schedules for the next-gen consoles, *if* Inquisition is indeed a next-gen title. Showing gameplay that was clearly too shiny to be possible on the current Xbox and PS3 would probably bring up all sorts of awkward questions, especially when Microsoft and Sony themselves haven't (to my knowledge) even publicly confirmed tha tthey're developing new consoles.

It'd also partly explain why Mike et al are being so taciturn about the game, when development seems to be in full swing and we're presumably less than a year from release (although I do understand their stated reasons to shy away from unrealistic expectations and market the game to fans with actual content rather than vague statements).

It would've been too soon for DA3 imo. I REALLY hope they are taking their time on this one...

I was watching VGA live, I swear that dark souls 2 trailer made me hop around, I thought it was DRAGON AGE 3... When I saw Dark souls 2 at the end... I was like: (..... wtf?? but but.... the dragon and the.... WTF WTF WTF???!!) lol Everything from that trailer, the environment and all, is like whoever made it was "inspired" by the DA3 artworks... :c

(snip the cutie lil sad face..oh, mijo.)

yep. all that. the environment. the lady w/the hoodie. the armor. it reeked of DA. but, there are lot of dragon slaying games out there.

so fine then.

It wouldn't be too soon if the game is going to be released at the end of 2013 (though that doesn't mean they have to show something, only that the game should be in a stage enough advanced to be shown). If it's going to be released on 2014, I can understand why they're not showing anything. Plus, in this case it'll most likely be released on next-gen consoles, and they can't show footage of the game released on those consoles (or on PC if the graphics is too good for this gen).

Honestly, I did not expect anything from DA3. I hoped a lil, but no biggie. It was cool.

But that Dark Souls 2 trailer...even down to the feather thing! (I thought, omg! they're looking for Hawke and the Warden? Omg!)

>__>

Between the "Surprise" part, and the striking similarities to DA3, I felt like some evil wizard had taken the form of my husband in an effort to seduce me. Which of course, when I found out, just makes me wanna punch Dark Souls 2 in their friggin' throat.

Whatever.

Pretty much, the game is really all about it being hard and having the medieval feel to it.

The first two were fine games, not sure why the third should be any worse.

The PC port is one of the worst I've ever had the displeasure of encountering though.

Oh I'm not saying they're bad in any way, just that the only real "thing" to the game is the difficulty.
Though the lore seems very interesting, but quite hard to get a solid understanding on.

No it means "many different locations" in geographically and aesthically dissimilar locales.

That it's obvious, thouugh the different locations could be located in different nations. His post didn't deny this possibility.

Someone apparently tweeted to Mark Darrah:

It seems like there's a lot of potential for misunderstanding in dev Twitter feeds - especially when (understandably) people are already enthusiastic about the game. Maybe it's a language thing, in that developers often use concepts and terms that the consumer wouldn't know or really find important (like game builds) - I know that I'm confused by most of the technical wording, even when Mark isn't deliberately being obscure :P

I guess there's not much they can do to prevent hype (if they even wanted to), just interesting to note that possibility of miscommunication or even jumping to conclusions.

One thing to keep in mind is that games go through numerous "builds." A barebones, completely unpolished, super-early version of the game that just showcases a few gameplay mechanics for the devs is a build. The version where everything still looks undetailed and hollow is a build. Etc.

Gaider said he had a theory that the companions that were most fawning and/or subservient to the protagonist's will were inevitably the most popular ones, and Deekin endeavored to test this theory.  I am paraphrasing, but yes, he wrote Deekin.

I think he's probably right. At least as far as popularity of companions on the BSN is concerned.

I'd probably say that's part of the reason Garrus is such a popular character.

And Varric. (I liked him because he made me laugh, but I wish he had been a bit more opinionated and willful.)

I don't remember any female characters in Dragon Age games as being so passive that they're always totally cool with whatever the PC does, which is pretty awesome. Aveline is probably my favorite because when she disapproves of you, you will feel it. :)

I just thought he was funny and adorable, kind of like what Jar Jar Binks should have been.

Except that I don't think most of the companions in DA2 are this way, other than Varric, particularly since you can do the whole rival path. Although I always thought of friend/rival as a new thing for Bioware, so perhaps most of those are exceptions.

I do know that he wrote Alistair specifically to appeal to women, so he's not lacking in perceptiveness XD.

The characters in DA2 are even more subservient to our PC since the friend/rival system has no real consequences. Even at the end when some characters may leave depending on who you side with you can just coerce them back 10 minutes later. In Origins even a character like Leliana who is the closest thing to a fangirl Bioware has written besides Tali will physically try to stop you from doing things, at the cost of her own life(until the power Retcon awakens her!). But the angriest companion in DA2, Fenris, just gets snippy and walks away from Hawke.

I dont think that's true. I think most players actually enjoy earning the respect of those npc's. Perhaps even trust, friendship. Love? Morrigan I'd hardly call a fawner. Sten. Fenris.

There's a difference between a character that challenges you. Questions you. Perhaps even thinks you're misguided and naive, and one that's just a azzhole to you.

I haven't found any companions in BW games to be straight up a-holes. Jacob from ME2 did border on that in the beginning. Well, not beg., beg., shortly thereafter. You have to really want to get to know him.

Tallis on the other hand, I found nothing challenging, nor confrontational about her character. Just annoying. All these QQ's. "It didn't have to be this way." *sniffle. sniffle.* "There are many paths"....ah, shadyup. Better yet, where's violin.

Perhaps I just didn't get a chance to know her well enough to really give a darn about all her inner turmoiliness.

Anywho, thank you Wiedzmen for the Cam Lee post. Sounds good. Sounds like everything I want...fans are a skittish bunch....like beautiful, wild, untamed horses! Yeah, that's it.

Don't know how so many people mistook the dark souls II trailer for DA3, Jessica Alba's pre-trailer talk was practically a dead give away that it was a dark souls trailer.
