Interesting:
“We are in the Arbor Wilds,” Kell surmised, studying the terrain.
“In the south of Orlais. Dangerous country. A difficult place
to live, to be certain.”
Duncan looked up, interested. “Dangerous? Because of the animals?”
“Because of the dryads.”

Origins, ME2, DA2 and ME3 showed off just about every potential companion well before release so expect the same for Inquisition. BioWare is known for their interesting companions and it's a useful tool in their marketing toolbelt. I'm betting they reveal at least 7 of the companions before release+the inevitable DLC companion.

O,o I'm getting A Song of Ice and Fire vibes smilie
That's a lot of effort to go to on their part - would the number of fans who care deeply about avoiding spoilers be worth the trouble? I also doubt they'd just release their marketing schedule, as that does ruin the suspense somewhat.Cirram55 wrote...
^ Totally agree.
I mean, different people want different things, so I just wish Bioware would adopt a slightly better advertising system. Like Jimmy said, one way would be to warn beforehand your fans if what they're about to hear is gameplay or companion/story related.
I dunno, but it'd help knowing whether gameplay info and mechanics are coming first and LIs and that sort of stuff second, that way I would know when I can leave the internet and start living in a cave.

I'm sympathetic to people who want to avoid spoilers, I just think it's slightly unrealistic to expect them to start every trailer or blog post with "this contains spoilers about companions, look away now" instead of "HEY EVERYONE HOW COOL IS DRAGON AGE WATCH THIS NOW BUY OUR GAME PLZ".

Warning fans might be a nice thing to do, but... surely the focus of the marketing team is 100% on doing everything they can to get news of the game out to people who don't know about it, or who aren't convinced about buying it, not catering to the group of fans who are already deeply invested in the series and will buy it on day one.

Well, if you count the group of people standing around the Inquisition table...
You've got Cassanda, Varric and Viviene (and, we would likely assume, the Inquisitor in the middle). You've got the shaved head elf, who appears in other areas and is speculated to be a Magister, such as the below picture...

Vivienne is not in that pic and Gaider said that most of those characters are NOT companions a while back (it's in the companion speculation thread, I don't feel like searching for his quote).

I just thought about companions. There'll be 9. So they could show us someone new.
I know I'm likely in the distinct minority on this, but I'd really wish they didn't show us companions at ALL. It ruins some of the experience for me when I know every single person I meet will/won't join the party ahead of time.
Those who knew that Jorveth and Rory weren't companions for DA:O likely didn't place much emphasis on them, but someone who didn't know might have attached onto them and their fairly detailed back stories, making their deaths that much more gruesome. Similarly, knowing Zevran was a recruit when you first see him being hired to kill you and later when you capture and get the chance to kill him before even waking him up can be viewed very differently than if you didn't have that foreknowledge.
It is for this reason I go dark before a game, particularly a Bioware game, I am interested in comes out. I HATE having companions revealed. So I'd really like if they waited a lot later into 2014 before they start revealing.
