It's not conclusive and the actual game might be wildly different, but Cole's bio in the Inquisition marketing survey that leaked about a year ago was very vague about what he actually is.Banxey2 wrote...
I suppose it is a matter of interpretation. I don't see how the book supports him being a kind of spirit that exists outside of the rules, but I could be forgetting something. What do you think is so unusual about him? I just saw him as a spirt of mercy who had been corrupted and had evolved into something else, similar to how Justice has become Vengeance. And I think if Vengeance is going to live outside of Anders, he would probably do so by killing a bunch of people, too.
Cole:
A long time ago, a young man died a cruel death in a dark place. And now,
somehow, there is Cole. Was he a spirit or a demon? Is he human now?
Cole’s not sure it matters anymore. Hounded by memories that aren’t his, invisible
in a world he can stalk like a shadow, the rogue must decide between
joining the living or preying on them.
[/list]If Cole's identity crisis is the basis for his entire story arc in Inquisition, I hardly think it's likely that he's a run-of-the-mill demon or spirit. At the very least, he's unusually introspective and unusually confused - which is not at all something we've seen before. If *the game* is making a big deal about that duality, then it certainly wasn't something that was settled and over with in Asunder.

He also wrote Mordin, and I believe large chunks of Tuchanka and Rannoch. Plus a fair bit of the 'comedy' flavour text that's been in ME2/ME3 (like the Blasto ads, I think).eluvianix wrote...

He's also writing the next DA novel, if that makes a difference.

I think he also wrote Garrus' Normady Dialogue in Mass Effect 2 and 3 if I remember correctly. I might not.. orz
He also has his own novel out called The Palace Job which is sort of a fantasy take on the Heist genre. I reccomend it if you like clever comedy. His humour reminds me of Douglas Adams', the writer of Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

One thing I was never clear on though: Did Cole himself really commit all those murders, or did he use Rhys to do them?
I was a little confused about that, too. But it seemed like Cole had an opportunity to kill someone when he was at the Adamant Fortress while Rhys was in the fade. Of course he didn't, but he clearly felt like he could.

That's interesting. Thanks for posting it, I hadn't seen it before. I suppose we'll get a definite answer one way or the other eventually.

Facebook says: “And thus was mighty Arlathan cast down, its people swallowed by darkness—never to rise again.”

Are we gonna get to go in the abyss? The sunken ruins of Arlathan? On the Facebook version it talks abt "Here lies Arlathan...swallowed in darkness...never to rise again."

@davidgaider: Today @bengelinas killed all my adverbs. It was a massacre.
@bengelinas: Hey, I left a couple to mourn the dead.
@bengelinas: To grimly mourn the dead, I'm sure.

It does, I'm just saying that Arlathan is well beyond the "Eastern Ferelden to Western Orlais" the game is supposed to take place. So it may just be art for a place we might not see in this game.rapscallioness wrote...

Ah, the massacre of adverbs. How do they expect a writer to paint a picture when they take away all their colors? Blunt force writing it is, like performing surgery w/a meat cleaver. haha!...
oh..and non-euclidian....boobs..I..never woulda thought to...see that, like that.

The quote is actually from the Chant of Light. "Here lies the abyss, the well of all souls. From these emerald waters doth life begin anew. Come to me, child, and I shall embrace you. In my arms lies Eternity."hhh89 wrote...
