Too bad we can't see it... even an extreme close-up of a slobbery fang would be neat.

mike laidlaw tweet 12/15:
"The best part of my job is how professional members of the DA team are.Open feedback among the team is vital to the quality we're targeting."
The bolded part is interesting, to me, in that it suggests (perhaps obviously) that the publisher or project lead specifically define and target varying levels of quality. Fans - who aren't privy to the internal facts of development - can go absolutely ballistic if there's the slightest hint of a lack of polish, even if there are entirely good reasons why that design choice was made.
I mean, if a game is on a strict deadline for financial reasons ("get it released in x quarter because we need the revenue") but there are clearly not enough zots or time to get it up to a certain level, it's probably going to be released with more cuts and compromises, a smaller design scope, etc. Or it could be that to a publisher, releasing Game ABC even if it doesn't exceed the quality of a predecessor makes more business sense than paying for an extra year of development.
I guess it's not something we're used to hearing - that projects can actually "aim" for less than super-high quality, because the exigencies of game development (and pubishing) require it. Marketing or PR just don't mention compromise, and it's rare that developers would indicate that a project is comparatively not so awesome (except maybe until a while after release?).
(It also kinda seems like DA3 has a different design scope than its predecessor, and that they're aiming for a qualitatively more impressive game that has a quantitatively, metacritically better outcome.)
i think you raise a good point. and i, too, am happy to see/hear this.
and altho i can understand on an intellectual level the idea of pushing something out for w/e reason. in my heart and my gut i can never understand Consciously not putting your best out there. it's got your name on it.
even from a money stand point. what's your "name" worth if it becomes associated w/crap? there is no honor in that. unless you're like Gamlen in DA2, "...but at least i got the money!" Lol.
