 Justin Jones[/b] ‏@Machina_mundi6h@PatrickWeekes Hey Patrick. I think I've come up with an Interesting Game Concept. Who should I talk to about that?

Patrick Weekes@Machina_mundi I am gonna answer this. Take it as honest advice, no hurt intended
 Ideas? Concepts? Cheap. Every dev at every game studio has half a dozen.
Even senior-level devs rarely get to make the game that is their own Interesting Game Concept. Why would we make yours?
So if you have the ideal game, you gotta make it. Get a team. Get a Kickstarter. Make it happen.
It is awesome that you have an idea. Go with it. Believe in it. But it's yours to make.

I'd like to know at least if a mage inquisitor is an apostate or circle mage. If revealing such an information is too much of a spoiler, then maybe the Inquisitor has no backstory - one day he or she just appears where the veil is torn and that's it :P

That's what I'm curious about, as well. As much as I want to know about the other racial/class backgrounds (and the dwarf one especially), I'm really interested in the mage.

I suppose if there's only one mage background (like in Origins) it'd make the most sense to have it be apostate. I'm assuming (guessing!) that there aren't a lot of Qunari mages in the various circles around Thedas.

Unless all mages have the same backgound unless you're playing a Qunari mage.

Okay, putting too much thought into it.

@user backstories for followers? Yes we will release some of them but there will also be some surprises.

in reply to this

User@BioMarkDarrah Ah, sorry, I meant for the different races or classes! Inquisitor backstory will influence my decision greatly.

.@user ah, good question.
It would spoil some early game stuff.
What do you think @Mike_Laidlaw ?

@BioMarkDarrah @user I think we might be able to edit them to spoil less before too long, yep.

This is exciting news! It would be how our character starts out, so I have no problem with having a little peek before playing the game.

Is the Carry On My Wayward Son thing just a fun thing they did to pass the time, or does this mean it'll be used in marketing? Either way, I must see! I love that song.

@ SgtEliais

The mages will be the ones with distinct backgrounds that diverge quite a bit, they've already confirmed that the Elven mage is Dalish during the crafting and customization podcast from nerd appropriate, they haven't said anything about the other 2 just yet.

@Vlk3

The reason why they have to edit them before showing them off is that it'll spoil why our character's are at the place where the veil tears and has something to do with the different reasons why our inquisitors are runing the inquisition.

They've confirmed during the podcasts that our backgrounds will give each character a significant and different reason for being at the place where the veil gets torn open, so it makes sense why they have to take that stuff out before revealing it to us.

Wouldn't a Dalish mage be a Keeper? Or the apprentice of a Keeper? That would be a pretty important person, at least in the clan he/she belongs to.

For some reason I can't quote anyone. Weird. Anyway . . .

@ Spectre slayer

I completely forgot about that! Awesome. For some reason, I thought the Dalish background thing was a hint/possibility and wasn't technically confirmed, but I'm probably misremembering.

Yeah, the Quote function seems to be borked...

There was a screenshot from the Pax panel which showed there was a Dalish Mage Inquisitor, but I can't seem to find it at the moment.

As I understand it, it's when the game gets certified by a company (like Microsoft for the Xbox) for widespread release.

@SgtElias

Yeah the quote function is pretty messed right now and has been for a few hours.

But they did indeed confirm that the elven mage will be dalish to be more specific someone asked them this question which was " So my question is simply can we play as a Dalish mage."

Their response was this.

" Um yes and i can mention that we are exploring, um uh uh I lied before, uh yeah backgrounds and race are a part of it. We are also investigating that maybe a mage character is different enough that they might need a particular background that serves them better than just being a human, a elf or a Qunari.

So we are looking at how much of a difference that needs to be given the nature of the giant freaking hole in the sky and the stuff that may have lead to that."

They talked about mages more in another one or was it eariler in that one lol, anyway someone asked them if the the non mage ones will diverge and they said thar it's likely that only the mage one's will be the ones that diverge and be different so they'll have 3 of the slots with some possible different permutations.

@Chanda

Good question, not sure yet though it's highly possible we could be a keeper or a former keeper, the first or a former first, or apprentice for the first position given what we know of them which is they usually only have a few fully trained mages in each dalish camp and if they have to many they give them to other clans.

That' fantastic! Thanks so much for reminding me; I did a quick google search earlier and found part of that quote, but you gave me more details! Now I'm EVEN MORE excited to play a mage. Yeeeeesssssss.

Still curious about the background for the other (non-mage) races, but that pretty much answers the question I was most curious about, so thanks!  ^_^

Jennifer Hepler also wrote someone, i think.

I believe so, but I imagine quite a bit has changed since then.  Who knows how much of her actual work remains...

David Gaider mentioned having to do a complete character re-write of one that wasn't personally his, I believe (if I remember rightly), so it's possible he was referring to Jennifer Hepler's character.
