The hat is better than the ones we had in previous games. But seriously, he posted this picture with the tweet?

There's a reason quoting without context (in this case, an attached image) is a bad idea. Also, sorry, but did you even read the comments before yours?
That tweet was a joke.

Great. Now I want Chevy Chase to appear in DA:I, in character as Pierce Hawthorne, either in this outfit or his full-body pillow armor!
More to the point, what would a new armor direction even look like? Poofy sleeves? Neon lights? Name tags?

I need my fix of Alistair's cheesy jokes now!
Also.. we need more nugs in DA3, LOTS of them!

As much as it pains me to be stuck in the cone of silence right now, this is a more than reasonable time frame for hard information. If the game does come out Oct/Nov 2013, that's still a six month build-up. Plus, I suspect there will be a next gen console reveal in late spring that will allow even more, awesomer information to come out. And until then we've got lots of cryptic tweets to keep us entertained.ElitePinecone wrote...
Mark Darrah tweeted that the next sprint review day will be around the end of January.
Based on past dev statements, we also shouldn't expect much concrete information about DA3 to emerge before the northern spring.

Six months does sound quite a bit shorter than the marketing cycles for other Bioware games (which had up to a year, if not longer), but some actual content to show alongside dev comments might even be a better way to do it. It's fair to say DA2's marketing really didn't resonate with a lot of fans, and ME3 was plagued by some hyperbolic developer statements that didn't match what was later in the game.
(What does intrigue me, though, is the return to a holiday season launch date; both DAO and the first ME were November releases but all their sequels have been in January/February/March. Should we take it as a positive sign of EA's expectations for the game?)

Origins was originally intended to come out early (it was somewhere between February and April IIRC). Only the console ports pushed it back to November, which was undoubtedly an EA mandate (to release them all simultaneously).
This is probably the slot that DA3 was assigned (it's been the suggested release ever since we knew about the project, from the news of the big game that was pushed into fiscal 2014), I would guess because BioWare successfully argued for more time after wanting or being forced into the new engine and/or multiplayer.
