You get ALL the cool jobs!
Nick Sadler @Zenderquai:
It does mean I've been looking at spiders and their webs for the last 2 hours. Getting paranoid and jumpy over random itches.
Ability Drain @AbilityDrain:
Ah, but you're a perfectionist. You know you'll be staring at pictures of spiders and webs for days now!
Nick Sadler @Zenderquai:
I did a load of research for the caves and stumbled across the Cave-Spider/Tail-less whip scorpion. Fascinating, and harmless

Why are people so afraid of spiders? I get they're unpleasant but to the point of paranoia? Or is 1/3 of the human race afflicted with arachnophobia? xD

I don't know about spiders, but I did have a big ol cockroach crawl up my neck as I was almost asleep one time.

I never got acrophobia either, spiders are dead useful around the house to get rid of bugs and such (I get in some areas of the world there are scary ones but those aren't spiders the majority of people in North America have to deal with). I also wish they would branch out with the blight-infected giant bugs. Giant cockroaches would be infinitely more terrifying.
Don't give them ideas! Although I wouldn't be opposed to some giant, blight-infected butterflies. Or perhaps a praying mantis?

Fear of snakes and spiders is probably an in born instinct to protect yourself against potential deadly venom.

I would really love it if they brought back The Children. Those fully grown forms were horrific and way scarier than big spiders.
fun fact about the Children: as I recall, we couldn't get the extra limb part hiding to work in time, so all the extra parts they grow are tucked up inside their bodies when they're running around, and then they switch to a different set of animations with the limbs popped out when they transform.

Do you happen to remember who designed the Children, the Architect and the Mother? Their designs had quite a different feel from the rest of Dragon Age (at that point).Seb Hanlon wrote...

you'd have to check the credits for character and concept art; I was pretty far down in the engineering of the thing on Awakening.

I would reason that many people that suffer from arachnophobia have a close relative that also suffered from it, and reacted in front of the child. Since children will mimic adults, the child may have decided to mimic that set of behaviors and as a result developed arachnophobia! It's a very simple, yet valid, example of social learning theory!
Of course another valid example would be to have a horrifying experience with a spider. Be it an annoying spider bite, seeing a very large spider, living in Australia, being told a horror story about a world overun by maneatting giant spiders (or watching a movie to that effect), or developing a phobia of a specific insect which later generalized to anything insect sized with multiple legs.

I'm assuming that they will release the diaries in segments rather than all at once. One day in February we will get diary #1 and so on.

I live in Australia and have no fear of spiders, or snakes for that matter. In fact, we (my fiance & I) have quite a few Snakes as pets.

Sorry if i was not clear in my last post. What i meant was that sometime during next ~2 weekes they should be dropping first part of the dev diaries, hopefully, most likely etc etc...
edit: i think it was Aaryn Flynn, who said/hinted somewhere, that first of the dev diaries should come out on February. Take it as it is....
