There is also Bethany and Carver in DA2 who are mutually exclusive (after the prologue).

I'd be wary of assuming the number of companions based on counting the foods mentioned in a joke on Twitter.

The website still says 9, and the last time a dev said something it was still 9. Until those change, expecting 10 might mean disappointment later on.

They usually have a DLC companion released alongside the game though, so it may be 10 companions including the day 1 DLC companion.

Really? I'd say it is almost guaranteed. They've never included the D1DLC companion in the count of companions in the past five years. And they've had a D1DLC companion the past five years. 

Saying that there are 10 in the game has the implication that it would be 10 in the BASE game, which is not true. 

9+1 seems quite likely to me.

Also, the writers never said "companions," they said "characters." So they could be including NPC's that are not followers.

Yeah I remeber Anora was once compared to a drink along with the other companions during DAOs devlopment.

Another good reference for those who think you can't do rolls or that people completely turtle when on the ground in plate armor.
