But they've never had anyone that remotely sounds Australian or New Zealander - very few games do, which is why it'd be so jarring. I want to enter, but at the same time I hardly think they'd ever use an accent like mine in the actual game. That sort of accent is distinctive enough that I don't really think it fits anywhere in the landscape of accents that we've already heard,

(unless that undiscovered continent on the other side of Thedas is actually New Zealand)

It would be jarring for me too. But it might depend on the thickness of the accent. I think it wouldn't be so bad if the person sounds more like Hugh Jackman than Steve Irwin. The same would probably apply to Americans with very thick regional accents.

Well, when you really think about it, the Australian accent was directly modified from British, so it would be a lot less of a leap than, say, Russian or African, when compared to the accents already featured in the DA universe. And New Zealander isn't too far away from Australian, either. If either were featured in the DA series, as long as they where from a previously unexplored region, I'd totally buy it. In fact, it'd be far more jarring to me to hear someone from New Jersey or Boston in DA than Australia or New Zealand.

I'd love to hear a wider variety of English language accents in DA:I.

Have you all ever checked out the Speech Accent Archive? It's an awesome resource and fun to boot. I've linked y'all to the atlas browsing function. I was a little disappointed that the Los Angeles, CA speaker didn't have that Valley Girl twang I grew up speaking (which I'm sure would sound perfectly normal in Thedas.)  ;)

So we'll have something special next week, in addition to a dev diary?

From what Aaryn Flynn said, I think we won't get a dev diary next week.
Mary Kirby posted a bit of info about Vivienne in the Vivienne thread. Check it out guys.

Don't let that stop you! I'm from New Zealand too (south island, christchurchian) and I've found that it's very easy for us sound just a smidgen more British without sounding like we're putting on a thick accent. We tend to slur our words just a bit, and speak faster than other people, so if you can slow down and pronounce just a bit more we sound a lot more English.

(If you still aren't feeling it watch a crap ton of British comedy panel shows until you start to fall into it. Since we've been surrounded by that kind of culture our whole lives media wise, it actually happens really naturally - it's the same reason we subconsciously sing with American accents.)

I'll bring it here.

She is allergic to Fereldan fashions. And there's nothing she dreads getting as a Wintersend present because she arranges for those privileged enough to see her for the holidays to select gifts for her from an approved list. Also her shoes are an amazing array of gold-encrusted boots made from rare animals, and possibly the skins of one or two of her political rivals.

While the Australian mocking of New Zealand's accent sets my teeth on edge, I have to agree. Hearing the kiwi accent in day to day conversations is fine. Hearing it on (NZ) TV shows is fine. Hearing it on, say, flight of the conchords is just cringe inducing. For whatever reason it always feels incredibly out of place.

I would love to do this, but I've heard my voice on recording and I usually sound like the rumble of distant thunder. Kiwi thunder....

I think the hegemony (or linguistic imperialism, for lack of a less bombastic term) of North American accents in global pop culture is so ingrained that I actually feel self-conscious about Australian accents in international settings, or where an Australian person is talking to someone with another sort of accented English. What sounds fine at home sounds *incredibly* discordant when paired with an American or Canadian accent - I don't know why, but it's really hard to shake that feeling. I think if they were to use NZ or Aus accents in something like Dragon Age, it would be weird to have those characters in the middle of a sea of other people who all sound British/American/French.

If any sort of Aussie accent could work in something like DA, I think Geoffrey Rush's stage-acting voice (still Australian but erring towards British RP) could work. It's certainly not as broad as Steve Irwin or even Hugh Jackman, and he has form playing eccentric pirates and stuff.

I'll still enter the competition though :)

The team (in da2 anyway) seems to be assigning accents to different ethnic or cultural groups in DA. Like american accents for dwarves, irish and welsh for dailish, etc. Aussie accents will probably be seen eventually.

Just make sure you're not convincing yourself of this to avoid doing it!  If he says go for it regardless, then I'd encourage you to do the same!

I wish the DAI Vo contest would include other countries than the ones listed. It sucks that many fans are excluded from stuff like that because they live in the wrong country :(

Go to edit profile and put in your url from the old bsn site into the specified boxes.

I might try doing the second scipt, just for fun. I live in Sweden so there's no way I could win, but this does sound fun. Just wondering, does anyone know of an easy (and hopefully free/cheap) way to record this? I've never doen anything like this before!

You have to go into Edit Profile. At the bottom of the first page there's an area titled Game Profiles, as well as entry boxes for DAO, ME3, DA2. Under each box there's an example link that you should post in the box.

 http://social.biowar...rofile.php?nid=1234567890&game=dragonage1_ps3&persona_id=123456789

The bolded parts are the things you need to edit. The number strings correspond to your profile ID from the old BSN, so you should go to http://social.biowar...m/forum/1/index, log in, click on your profile picture to get to your profile. Once there, you will see a string of numbers in the URL bar, and that is your profile ID.

For the console identification you will place ps3 for ps3, pc for pc, and xbox for Xbox 360.

You then do this for each game you own, and eventually the game symbols will appear!

They don't have an icon for ME2.

In terms of audio programs/software, I'm a big fan of Audacity. If you don't have a separate mic, it will use your computer's internal mic (assuming there is one). But it has many useful functions like noise removal. And it's free! (It also has some neat tweaks like pitch and tempo changes, but I would stay away from that here, as you of course only want to submit something that you can do naturally).

My accent is a blend of North American locales, apropos to my train-hopping and Greyhound bus-zipping years, but I've taken classes on various English dialects and Irish just comes to me when I'm drunk as though from my very genes to my throat.

I wonder if the cutscene creator for the new engine is similar to the old one used for DA origins?  Can anyone who tweets ask that of John Epler on my behalf?

What happen to the forums lol, I am gone for a few days playing Final Fantasy 14 and everything changed it all changed lol.

Now to more pressing matters how much better will a dwarf look in DAI? From screenshots I seen, they probably wont look like they had their arms and legs cut short lol. Sort of how they look to me at times in DA:O
