I'm the exact opposite.  I really don't want to know anything more about the story or characters.  A teasing tweet here and a leaked screenshot there is fun without ruining the full impact of playing the game fresh.  Mostly, I love hear about the behind-the-scenes stuff. 
 
It's fun seeing how different everyone is about what info they want to know ahead of time, etc.  Yay!

Well, the available background options wouldn't be such a terrible thing. They'd be the first things presented to you when you boot up the game. Not much in the way of spoilers. I'm pretty content as long as not much outside the prologue is spoiled.

Pretty sure that is Dorian the Tevinter magister, that is clearly a staff he is holding.

He could be, but it's hard to say... Probably Orlesian, but I would have thought a Chevalier would be in heavy armor.

 

In the above pic, he looks more like a mage, with the scrolls at his side, the light armor and a weapon that looks more like a mage staff. In the original survey, he looks more like a warrior, drawing a sword from his back and in what looks like heavier armor.

I'd consider them warriors personally. Dog's very tankish. But we've never had lots of mages or rogues, so this fan art lineup wouldn't be out of the ordinary.

 
If being tank-ish is all it takes to be a warrior then Arcane Warrior Morrigan and Wynne are warriors. And it wouldn't be out of the ordinary for there to be more warriors than rogues and mages combined?

That's Iron Bull, not a Sten. He's a tal-Vashoth mercenery.

The artist's rendering there is off. The extra handle thingy on there is not part of the pike's design. The original concept art of that character has a sheathed sword on his back with the handle sticking out in such a way that it looked like an additional part of the pike due to the poor image quality. Everything about him screams Chavalier.

It's clear the banner is only symbolizing the player. 

 

In DA:O, all of them fought for the Warden

 

In DA2, all of them fought for the Champion of Kirkwall

 

In DA:I, all of them fights for the Inquisitor.

We should also keep in mind that the picture is fan art. Very good fan art, but still not using any information beyond what's already out in the public. 

 

(I got confused when I first saw it though, given that those characters are positioned under the "real" DA:O and DA2 parties.)

so i bet the DLC character is a rouge. 

 

 

Given that there are 3 females, and 6 males, the DLC character is probably also female.

Origins only had 3 warrior companions. 4 if you count the "secret" companion, but he replaces Alistair in the party. Shale and Dog weren't really warriors.

 

 

shale was also DLC, and dog wasn't humanoid. 

 

 

so maybe one or more of our companions have special class situations.

It was a marketing survey, not an announcement. It was never meant to be made public, nor was it meant to be informative. It's purpose was finding out what to advertise, nothing more. No details like that were in the survey and swords are not new so I'm having a hard time understanding your point of view here...

A lot of people, including myself, found her to be a boring Mary-Sue and in the story you're railroaded into being her lackey because she's such a Mary-Sue. In the vanilla game you can kill people for slighting you less than Tallis does but because Tallis is Felicia Day you have no choice but to bend over for her.
