I think they could see the advantage in not making backtracking too laborious though.

Yeah, especially if the areas are ginormous.

We haven't even seen the largest of them yet, and Crestwood/that desert one looked huge.

The gif doesn't do justice to how that line is said.

If there's fast travel in DA2, you can bet your bottom dollar there's fast travel in DAI.

Hmm I wouldn't count on that if i were you, fast traveling everywhere is actuallyssomething they said that they won't do.

"We're still working on the specifics of how you move between the levels," Lee explained.

"What we definitely won't do is lots and lots of fast travel everywhere. We don't want people to just to be able to teleport wherever they want to teleport, but you will be able to travel between it.

"We'll get into more of that at a later date, but one thing to think about with this is that when you look at the map of what we've got and where we place down these big open worlds, there's so much space and context around being in that world.

"There's an overarching conflict and a narrative that runs through it, and we place down into each of those big open worlds similar conflicts and narratives. So even though you're moving through these different open worlds you're still seeing the same context of the events that are taking shape.

"The reactivity between these different areas is connected and strong, so you don't feel like you're moving from one planet to another planet. It's all still connected. But the specific travelling mechanism, yeah, we'll talk about that a little bit later. But we do want people to be able to fill in that space a little bit."

There's no big seamless world map in Inquisition like there would be in a traditional open-world game—"It doesn't make sense for a game this scope to be seamless because you'd literally have to walk 40,000 miles from Orlais to Ferelden," says Darrah—instead, you can select regions on a big world map, then travel through what BioWare promises will be massive open worlds within each one.

Possibly. But also possibly only through zones you maintain a presence, or have thoroughly cleared.

Keep in mind the thing they stressed at PAX: Leaving your keeps requires preparation and planning, and being outside them is dangerous. So removing that whole aspect of their design... thrust... in favor of easy travel is not something I'd expect.

I agree and Matthew Goldmanin the crafting customization podcast talked about running from wolfs when you have little health and have no choice but to get back to your keep to heal.

Yeah. I think the key might end up being backtracking. Maybe they'll only let us fast travel between keeps, and unlocking an area for fast travel requires seizing that area's keep. Speculating, of course.

Possibily only inside the area you're currently, but it sounds like it's going to be a region travel system with what the kotaku article said though there likely a lot more to it than that, we'll have to wait for more information.

Huh, well I guess I just went for broke then with that bet.

Which is totally awesome because I actually really dislike fast travel as a main means of getting around.

Hmm, it would be interesting, and potentially eye scoopingly annoying, if, say you had to travel from Denerim to the Adamant Fortress, you would have to trek through every single map in between those two areas.

Tell you what: once you can ask about a character by name we will consider saying who worked on them.

You'd need to tell us his name first.

The trailer was filmed on PC, correct? Will there be comparisons of PC vs XboxOne/PS4/PS3 etc

Of course they are. Reveals are timed. There's a whole department to handle this sort of stuff. :P

They knew this would happen, though, obviously. It's not news they're sadistic!
