Even if Gaider was being 100% truthful why shouldn't we try to find out who the elf Mage companion is? Dorian is an educated guess and we're trying to ferret out info. Remove the sticks from your butts, please.

It was my impression that the dev diaries were delayed for after that trailer. I don't remember if it was stated at one point that they were planned for the following week, so that's why I'm asking. I could have understood wrong.

But have you considered that this might be precisely because they weren't in the survey? Cassandra was revealed in a blog post about customisation years ago, so only Vivienne is someone genuinely new. It hardly makes sense to show three survey characters and have everyone running around for the next year believing 100% of that survey is true. Don't you think if they'd shown Sera, the Iron Bull and Dorian running around with the Inquisitor that people would've started taking the survey even more as gospel than they do now?

 

Nothing says they had to show off Vivienne, Cassandra and Varric this early - why couldn't it have been a decision made because so many of the other characters (Sera, the Grey Warden, the Iron Bull, Cole, maybe Dorian) were inadvertently leaked ages ago? I'd hazard a guess that from this point forward there are only two or three genuinely new characters that they could even reveal, and maybe fewer than that.

She was not on the survey at all despite being a completely new character. was her role in the game decided and fixed at this point? If you take every companion concept on the survey as being definitely in the game Vivienne is the only new companion not to appear on the surveyin some form. I think it was more a marketing survey, really - the feedback was limited to liking or not liking concept designs (as well as responding to a list of features and story blurbs), and the survey participants included people who had never played any Dragon Age games. The companion bios and designs were actually quite a small part of what was a much larger survey about the game.

 

Also, several of those character concepts aren't companions - they're other major NPCs or members of the Inquisition who aren't in the party. The painter or scribe lady isn't a companion, for example, despite appearing in both the survey and the War Room concept art - and two of those survey concept pictures are Inquisitors. The fact that there were only four bios (out of nine) and a bunch of concept art that included companions, the player character and major NPCs makes me think they were throwing things in haphazardly.

 

Your point about Vivienne being the only companion not to appear in the survey isn't really true. If you add up every confirmed companion, plus all the likely ones from the survey, that still leaves two or three people who we have *no idea* about at this point. The survey included written bios of four companions, and images of two more likely ones (Cassandra and the Grey Warden), leaving Vivienne and two more characters (at least) that they haven't revealed yet.

 

So the survey wasn't comprehensive - it had, at best, six of the nine companions - but at this point nothing has actually contradicted anything in it.

I think we're getting another Vivienne character kit eventually.

 

The current guide file is titled "Vivienne_Kit1" and she wears a different outfit in her concept art + the demos. 

 

I just hope this doesn't delay bald elf guy's character kit for another couple of weeks   I'd also like to know who the Grey Warden or elf girl is from the demo....
