That makes me sick... I think "whitewashing" or changing a characters race, whatever it is, is horrible. I think Isabela and Vivienne look absolutely great the way they are. Smh.. I just wanna..

Tjeez, is there no respect for artist integrity anymore? I really, really, really hope the fact that Vivienne has (already) been turned white is just because they feel that she looks better this way rather than the fact that they don't want her to be black for the sake of being black... ![]()
So facial customization is already in place? Interesting...
I think it has been for quite some time. I remember Cameron Lee tweeting that you could make any face in the character creator it's that good.

I'm going to assume this is the first time you've heard of the concept of whitewashing, why it's bad, and why appeals to "artistic integrity" with respect to it are specious at best.
I'm also going to assume you have no idea how offensive it is to imply that it's okay for an artist to view changing a black character into a white one as "better," in the same sentence where you imply that black characters are merely tokens.

There's no difference between these two statements. If someone thinks Vivienne "looks better" as a white woman, it's because they don't want her to be black. That train of thought creates this, like, Ultimate Scale of Attractiveness that puts black women/dark-skinned women/women of color/etc below white women, and that's some racist bs. There's literally no excuse.

Irma 'Aimo' Ahmed @aimoahmed:
Whitewashing Vivienne already when d game is not even nearly out yet? WTF. Some people just HATE d very idea of POC in their sandbox. #smh
Mary Kirby @BioMaryKirby:
@aimoahmed Well, this hurt my brain. Seriously?
Jessie Lam @axl99:@BioMaryKirby @aimoahmed Wow. That didn't take long :/
Mary Kirby @BioMaryKirby:
@axl99 @aimoahmed I somehow thought, naively, that would wait until THE GAME ACTUALLY CAME OUT.

Sigh. I am sadly not surprised.
I think I've just lost what little faith in humanity I had left.
I know there are people like this, but seriously? They can't even wait for the game to be out? ![]()

Wait... what do they mean by whitewashing?
You know, the ******* in me is thinking of drawing a black Cassandra...

In this case, doing fanart of Vivienne was a white woman.
No, only ass customization.
You joke, but there is ass customization in Elder Scrolls Online. I moved that slider with my own two thumbs.

OOOO YEAH!!!!! I'm so happy they've put a lot of effort into the character creator!

Ugh, they saw it too, huh? It was physically nauseating to look at. Either way, I prefer the original Vivienne, thank you very much. Also, I wasn't expecting to say that before the game even came out.
No, only ass customization.
I approve of this. The derriere the better
Aww man, remind me of white / blond isabela mod =.= Why can't people just leave them alone. Imo, both Isabela and Vivi look a hell lot better with dark skin. Those fanarts and mods are just .... weird.

ROFLMAO! xD
That's pathetic! Hah!
You just have to laugh at these things, else you'll go crazy.
I wonder at the mentality of some gamers tbh. They see a character and start complaining about their looks immediatly. Some mods are quite horrifying but not only those skin color-changing mods (because some do prefer people to be white/black/brown/whatever like they may prefer someone to be blonde/ginger/etc.) but also that Hotter Isabela/merril and my personal pet peeve Hotter-Aveline.
You cannot change how your partner look or how your friends look but every time I see those threads and mods I recognise that some people would change the world according to their prefereces if they could. And that is sad.
Sometimes people act like DA is their personal sandbox or worse... a kind of harem where everthing should be to their tastes.
Maybe I'm missing something.
I can understand that this is a sensitive subject because it deals with race, but at the same time people change characters' sex (gender-bender fan art), sexuality (mods to make Alistair homosexual) and overall appearance (mods to make Aveline 'sexy') and people barely bat an eye.
Never seen the first two options but the third gets my eyes batting pretty fast...
It's quite simple: Those things aren't equivalent.
It's not hard to learn why, either. A simple Google search along the lines of "the history of whitewashing in media" should suffice.
Don´t get me wrong, this annoys me as much as it annoys you, but would your reaction be the same if it was a white character (Anders for example) who would be made black by some fanartist/modder?
I sometimes wonder if we react so strongly to surpress anything which even hints at racism even if there was no such intention...

Not meant as such, and duly noted.
