@Mike_Laidlaw @Vince_Waldon @AarynFlynn If I may ask...What do you mean by fast?

Mike Laidlaw ‏@Mike_Laidlaw 2m

@piotrbugryn @Vince_Waldon @AarynFlynn Vince, this is one of those questions you answer CAREFULLY, because the game's pace is down from DA2.

Aaryn Flynn ‏@AarynFlynn 38s

@Mike_Laidlaw @piotrbugryn @Vince_Waldon Exactly, we don't want to give the wrong impression!

@AarynFlynn @Mike_Laidlaw @piotrbugryn Ah. Fast, to my engineering eyes, means the engine is performing briskly...and I'm impressed! :-)

@Vince_Waldon @Mike_Laidlaw @piotrbugryn Niiiiiiiiiiiice...

Today I read about and/or played #DarkSouls2 , #TheWitcher3 and #DAI . The part of my soul dedicated to role-playing is now officially high!

Is Dark Souls considered role playing? I only played Demon's Souls, and only for a minute but I thought it was just an action game with "role playing" elements...

The endless argument over what constitutes an RPG should probably be thwarted before it begins in earnest, lest there be six more pages for Allan to cull...

Seriously, I've seen this one turn ugly too many times. :P

Mike Laidlaw @Mike_Laidlaw :

It is pre alpha.

User:

Why? What are the differences? What is needed to become alpha?

Mike Laidlaw @Mike_Laidlaw :

Alpha is a specific state where the content is in and locked, and only polish, balance, lighting and other "tuning" remains.

I just finished my first ever playthrough of DA2 15 minutes ago. All DLCs; clocked 65. Had 70 on Origins, so apparently they're not very far apart for me. But I'm probably just crazy.

Of course throwing in all the from-the-menu stuff in Origins last month technically gave me a grand total 97 hours with my first time in Ferelden, so there's that.

Also, whoo! I can officially no longer avert my eyes against any spoilers!

That's a long time spent in DA2.  :blink: The base game is probably 40-42 hours, with the Legacy and Mark of the Assassin DLC's adding about 3-4 hours more, each (Legacy slightly more so than MotA, IIRC). Sebastian's DLC adds just 2 missions, each about 20 minutes worth.

Overall, you're probably just slow and do a lot of stuff on the side that takes up too much time. :D

How can you get 40??? I first finished DA2 based game (all side quests) in like 18 - 20 hours on normal. It didn't have that much content to begin with, especially the last act. My second and last play through include Sebastian, Legacy and MoTA and still only took ~20 - 22 hours (I skipped alot of base game cut scenes though). DA:O took me between 40 -60 hours every runs, so it's like twice as long at least :D

Meh, it has a myriad of loot and a leveling up system, that's about all games need to earn an RPG tag these days.

I'd describe it more as a straight dungeon crawler myself.

How you play those games makes a huge difference in how many hours you get out of them.  My first run through DAo on Nightmare, I never used AI scripts, I paused and micromanaged every action of every battle.  I also sat and listened to every line of dialogue, and completed not all but the vast majority of side quests.  I clocked in at about 70ish hours.

My most recent on hard using tactic setups and escaping through most dialogue clocked in at a little over 20.

I'm more than willing to admit I'm slow (and I revel in it too) but 20 seems signficantly more outrageous to me.

Ah I see. I almost never pause or set up tactics in DA 2. The button smashing + enemies wave combat is simple enough, I pretty much just hack my way through it only using my Hawke lol I listened / watched every possible cutscenes too, still didn't take too much time. I guess I could even finish DA2 in one sit, provide I had the time lol

DA:O was, imo, a lot harder when I played the first time. That damn orge on top of the tower in Ostagar used to beat the crap outta me. Also, I spent alot of time walking around and listen to all party banters lol Guess that explains the extra hours :P

I spent over 100 hours to play through DA2 for the first time, and 80+ for second and 60+ for third - All with DLCs and nightmare difficulty.

It all depends on how you play. You could pass BG2 in 24 hours if you're skilled enough.

It took me 83 hours to play through DA:O, 24-25 hours for Awakening, and for 56 DA2 (including Legacy and MotA). That said, I'm a fair bit slower than most people, I think.

Dragon age 2 takes me around 45 hours to complete when doing every single side quest and finding every detail possible, but I get through content fast in general, especially after the first playthrough.

Looking over my DAO save files, it ranges from 45-70 hours with all content. I don't know how come it looks like I've played some characters a lot more than others since I do every quest available with all of them. Maybe I skipped a lot of dialogue with some of them or read fewer codex entries, who knows.

I really hope DAI is at least as long as Origins  :D

My latest Origins playthrough took 35 hours, including DLC. Awakening took 10 hours, Golems of Amgarrak and Witch Hunt about 1½ hour each. I tend to fast forward through dialogue I've heard before, though.

So, anyone remember how Jessica Merizan made an Off-Topic subforum thread asking what we wanted to be called since it's no longer BSN, making us no longer BSNers?

Seems "Scuttlebutters" won...  :?

I don't know about that...I managed to recreate and roleplay one of my p'n'p characters in Dark Souls. Of course, much of that was in my head, but since the game doesn't directly contradict any of my character's motivations, it worked out fine. There are even players who pretend to be one of the Belmonts and that they're playing in a Castlevania game, and it works perfectly since the game even gives you some weapons for the role (like the whip). :)
