Proportion wise he just looks like a super stacked human dude bro to me.

We have Varric already, so you'd think if we were getting another dwarf it'd be a lady.

Mary Kirby made a joke about him being Merrill's "hypothetical pet baby gryphon", named Feathers, because of the feathers on his helmet in an old piece of concept art. 

 

I think it was in reaction to people guessing who he was, since someone had mentioned Greagor (not even going to bother spelling it), the Warden who Alistair mentioned in a conversation in Origins.

In the concept art he has the same height as the other humans shown. Plus in the picture where it's raining, his chest looks too long to be a dwarf. I'd be really surprised if he is a dwarf.

i tried dark souls but for some reason couldn't really get into it.

It's not for me either, but I know precisely why: aside from some platformers and a few Nintendo adventure staples there are almost zero games without in-your-face and at least attemptedly-compelling stories/casts which can hold my attention. I've tried quite a few but ever since about a decade ago it just rarely sticks.

Kinda sucks but also saves me a lot of money.
